Sous Chef – The Talbot Pub & Restaurant, Cuckfield

We're looking for a talented and motivated Sous Chef to complete our team of four chefs at The Talbot, a popular independent pub and restaurant in the heart of Cuckfield.

If you're an experienced Sous Chef or a strong Chef de Partie ready to take the next step, we'd love to hear from you.

About the Role

As Sous Chef, you'll work closely with and deputise for the Head Chef. You'll be involved in every aspect of kitchen operations, from menu development to maintaining the highest standards of food quality and presentation.

Key responsibilities:

  • Support and lead the kitchen team in the Head Chef's absence
  • Contribute to the creation of seasonal menus using fresh, local produce
  • Maintain excellent standards of food hygiene and kitchen organisation
  • Help source high-quality ingredients and manage supplier relationships
  • Foster a positive, can-do team culture

What We're Looking For

  • Previous experience in a similar role (or a CDP ready to step up)
  • Strong knowledge of fresh, seasonal produce
  • A passion for great food and genuine hospitality
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • A reliable and professional work ethic

What We Offer

  • Salary: Up to £37k depending on experience annum (paid monthly)
  • Tips: Potential £4,000 per year (paid weekly)
  • Bonus: £500 cash bonus after 6 months
  • Pay review after 6 months
  • Work-life balance: One extra evening off per week and no more than two split shifts
  • Closed on Christmas Day and Boxing Day
  • A great working environment within a friendly, local independent pub serving over 2,000 covers per month

We're open for Lunch: Monday–Sunday and Dinner: Monday–Saturday (closed Sunday evenings).
