Health & Safety Manager

Salary: £55,000 - £60,000 + benefits

Location: Oxfordshire

Our people are at the heart of everything we do. We believe in creating a workplace where colleagues can grow, thrive, and feel safe. We are now seeking a
Health & Safety Manager
to lead the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of our occupational health & safety management system across retail stores, depots, and office locations.

This is a pivotal role for a proactive professional who can combine strategic oversight with hands‑on delivery, ensuring compliance, driving best practice, and embedding a strong safety culture across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and maintain the Occupational Health & Safety Management System (OHSMS) in line with legislation.
  • Champion health & safety best practice across all sites, ensuring systems of work are robust and effective.
  • Manage accident and incident reporting, ensuring investigations are thorough and corrective actions completed.
  • Partner with property and facilities teams to oversee statutory testing, preventive maintenance, and audits.
  • Lead site inspections and audits, ensuring compliance with the audit calendar and legislative requirements.
  • Support HR and training teams in the design and delivery of health & safety training programmes.
  • Monitor KPIs, risk assessments, and claims data, producing monthly reports and driving continuous improvement.
  • Implement awareness campaigns and clear communication to embed health & safety across all stakeholders.
  • Manage insurance claims and introduce processes to mitigate risk exposure.

What we're looking for

  • Degree in Health & Safety or NEBOSH Diploma (minimum), or working towards completion.
  • Proven experience managing health & safety in a wholesale, retail, or multi‑site environment.
  • Track record of managing systems to OHSAS 18001 standards (or equivalent).
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence and build relationships at all levels.
  • Strong planning, organisation, and interpersonal skills with high attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently, make key decisions, and balance workload effectively.
  • Integrity, confidentiality, and a pragmatic approach to risk management.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio.

Desirable:

  • Recognised training qualifications (e.g. Manual Handling Instructor, Fire Safety).
  • Membership of IOSH (Institute of Occupational Safety and Health).

What you'll get

  • £55,000 - £60,000 and benefits package.
  • Hybrid working with flexibility across office and site locations.
  • Professional development opportunities and support for further qualifications.
  • A collaborative, people‑focused culture where safety and wellbeing are prioritised.

Why this role?

This is a chance to make a tangible impact by shaping health & safety standards across a diverse, multi‑site business. You'll be empowered to lead change, influence culture, and ensure colleagues can thrive in a safe, supportive environment.
