About the Role

We are looking for an Assistant Transport Policy Officer to join the TfGM policy team. This is an exciting opportunity to work at the heart of transport policy in Greater Manchester, working to understand the city region's transport needs and shape the for residents and visitors.

You will play a key role in supporting policy development through research, coordination of meetings, and report writing, and will connect with colleagues across the organisation to find opportunities for collaboration.

Your Role

As an Assistant Transport Policy Officer, you will:

  • Support the development of transport policy activities for TfGM, the Greater Manchester Combined Authority, and GM Local Authorities.
  • Research transport trends and developments, preparing draft reports and briefings for the policy team.
  • Organise stakeholder meetings, take accurate minutes, and coordinate follow up actions.
  • Contribute to TFGM's policy planning by using your independent research to inform the areas the organisation should focus on.

Who are we?

The TfGM policy team supports the organisation and its stakeholders to understand and respond to new policy and transport trends. We are fast and thorough researchers, reviewing reports, legislation, and analysing data to provide concise updates to directors and politicians, and prepare policies that will improve transport services in Greater Manchester. We engage with operational teams in TfGM to support service delivery and network development and with all parts of the Greater Manchester system to understand customers transport needs, and how transport can help to develop Greater Manchester. We prepare strategies, plans, and policies to achieve the goals outlined in the Greater Manchester Strategy and the GM Local Transport Strategy.

This is a permanent position in the TfGM policy team with a career grade salary of £29,881-£38,723 depending on experience. You will be part of a supportive team of policy officers with varied experiences, and a wider multi-disciplinary Transport Strategy Directorate: the role offers an excellent opportunity to learn and develop in policy and transport.
