Product Reliability Engineer
Hi I'm Dom, VP of Engineering at Pinpoint.
We're a high-growth HR tech startup building and selling software that helps in-house recruitment teams attract, hire, and onboard the right talent. Today, we have a strong foundation in place: a mature product, rapid growth, strong product-market fit, and happy customers.
We're scaling fast - more customers, more integrations, and more people using Pinpoint in complex ways every day. Our CS team has grown faster than Engineering, and the volume of technical escalations has outgrown today's reactive model. Because customers run their entire hiring process on Pinpoint, reliability isn't a nice-to-have — it's core to our product promise.
To keep scaling confidently, we're adding a Product Reliability Engineer to strengthen the feedback loop between our customers, Support, and Product, and to lay the foundation for a proactive reliability function inside Engineering.
This role exists because we're at the stage where quality and pace have to rise together, and we need an engineer who thrives on making that possible. You'll own debugging and reliability as a craft: fixing the tough stuff, instrumenting what's fragile, and building internal tools that make the whole company more effective.
The fine print (but way more exciting):
- This is a remote, UK-based role, with occasional in-person meetups. Our HQ is in Jersey, and we're a growing team of ~80 (20 in Product & Engineering) across the UK, US, and EU
- You'll work within Engineering as a first-principles problem solver across the stack, collaborating with Support, QA, and Product to close the loop between customer feedback and how we build
- You'll see every kind of edge case and architectural stress, touching APIs, webhooks, SSO, data integrations, and embedded candidate-facing UIs
- You'll help turn today's reactive debugging into tomorrow's proactive systems and tooling.
- Pinpoint isn't for everyone. We're still in startup mode, so we're fast-moving, evolving, and hands-on
- Our values actually matter here. We hire people who reflect them in how they work, collaborate, and make decisions
- Own the full lifecycle of debugging - triage, diagnose, fix, and prevent high-impact issues across the product
- Build internal tools in our internal admin panel, so CS and CSMs can self-serve (bulk operations, config changes, diagnostics)
- Add instrumentation and logging to uncover recurring pain points and product drop-offs
- Shrink the backlog by identifying and fixing root causes rather than patching symptoms
- Balance short-term escalations with proactive reliability improvements (roughly 50/50)
- Work with Product, QA, and Support to resolve issues quickly while maintaining momentum on planned product development
- Shape the longer-term reliability model, defining tooling, processes, and expectations for a future rotation across product squads
- Participate in a light escalation rotation during weekday hours
- Deploy to production independently within your first year
Tech stack: Ruby on Rails (primary), TypeScript, React, MySQL.
About You:- 3–5+ years of software engineering experience, including 3+ years of Ruby on Rails and 1+ year of React + TypeScript in production
- Proven debugging instincts and a track record of owning production issues end-to-end; finding, fixing, and preventing recurrence
- Bonus points if you've previously built internal tooling for Support, Reliability, or Developer Productivity
- Comfortable working across the full stack to understand how everything fits together
- Excellent communicator who closes the loop between technical and non-technical teams
- Thrive in low-process, high-autonomy environments; you prioritize impact over instruction and focus on prevention over firefighting
- Value reliability and tooling as leverage work - building systems that make others faster, not just patching problems
- Strong product empathy - you understand how reliability connects directly to customer trust and business outcomes
- Experience operating in startup or scale-up SaaS environments with fast-moving, resource-constrained teams
- Based in the UK, with work authorization
We're committed to being an exceptional workplace and company you are proud to work for. To that end, we offer some great benefits, including:
- Gold-plated healthcare: Enjoy the best medical, dental, and optical coverage money can buy. We've got you and your family covered for all eventualities
- Unlimited holidays: Everyone needs a healthy, happy, and productive life without restrictive holiday limits
- Mental health support: Unlimited and immediate access to counseling for any employees via Spill.
- Retirement matching: Competitive retirement plan to help you achieve your long-term financial goals.
- Remote-first culture: Work where you're most productive. As a remote-first team, we prioritize flexibility and trust.
- Meaningful equity: You'll contribute to the team's success and deserve to share in it. To that end, everyone on our team gets a meaningful equity allocation
- Generous paid parental leave: To help support new parents in the workplace, we offer up to 16 weeks of paid leave
- Learning budget: Annual funds are made available to support both your personal and professional development
- Top-of-the-line equipment: We'll set you up with the right tools to do your best work—starting with a MacBook Pro, 4K monitors, and the right software to get the job done
- A team that cares: You'll be joining a team of intelligent, capable, and helpful people that want you to win, our clients to be wowed, and our business to grow
We're changing the way companies hire, and rewriting the rules of recruitment.
We build talent acquisition software, setting out to fix broken hiring processes that make it so hard for great candidates and great companies to find each other.
We do this by being the only applicant tracking system on the market that's both fast and easy to use, while being flexible enough to manage complex workflows as companies grow.
We believe attracting the right people and building the strongest teams means being different, not better. It means helping candidates understand what you do and don't offer—warts and all. And enabling your whole team to be part of the hiring process.
If you're looking for somewhere you can learn quickly, make a meaningful impact in a fast-paced business, and grow your career, you're in the right place.
We'll enable you to do your best work with the tools you need, support from the rest of the team, and an expectation that you'll challenge that status quo—helping us continually improve what we do.
