About us

We are a busy waterfront restaurant based in the heart Whitstable Harbour's South Quay. We have a capacity of around 200 covers, adjusted seasonally, with an expert and well-established management team for whom we are seeking an experienced Front of House Team Leader to join us.

Job summary

The FOH Lead is responsible for assisting the management team with the daily supervision of front-of-house operations to ensure a seamless and high-quality guest experience. The ideal candidate is a skilled service professional who leads by example, is an expert in all FOH functions, and is adept at guiding and coaching staff. This role requires strong leadership, excellent communication, and the ability to maintain a positive and efficient work environment.

Essential duties and responsibilities

Supervisory and leadership duties

  • Provide leadership and support to all FOH staff (hosts, servers, bartenders, food runners) during assigned shifts.
  • Serve as the main point of contact for staff, resolving issues and providing guidance and feedback.
  • Lead by example in all aspects of service, professionalism, and teamwork.
  • Assist with onboarding and training new FOH employees to ensure they meet company standards.
  • Help prepare and manage staff schedules and delegate tasks to ensure optimal coverage and efficient service.

Operations management

  • Oversee the entire dining room, from greeting and seating guests to managing reservations and table turns.
  • Monitor daily operations to ensure that all established procedures and service standards are followed.
  • Liaise with the kitchen staff to ensure effective communication and a smooth flow of service between the front and back of house.
  • Assist with inventory control, including ordering supplies and beverages as needed.
  • Ensure that all health and safety regulations are followed and that the restaurant is clean and well-maintained.
  • Handle cash transactions, manage the till, and perform opening and closing procedures for your shift.

Guest services

  • Ensure every guest has a positive and memorable dining experience.
  • Address guest complaints and issues with professionalism and urgency, working to resolve them to the customer's satisfaction.
  • Greet customers warmly upon arrival and thank them for their visit as they depart.
  • Maintain an advanced knowledge of the food and beverage menu to assist staff and make recommendations.

  • Leadership and team management: Proven ability to supervise and motivate a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Customer service: Exceptional interpersonal skills and a focus on providing high-quality service.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact with both guests and staff.
  • Problem-solving: Ability to think on your feet and resolve conflicts or unexpected issues effectively.
  • Organizational skills: Strong ability to multitask and manage competing priorities.
  • POS proficiency: Experience using Point of Sale (POS) and reservation systems.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience as a server, host, or bartender in a restaurant.
  • At least 1-2 years of experience in a supervisory or leadership capacity is preferred.
  • Flexible schedule with the ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Knowledge of local health and safety regulations.

Pay: £30,000.00-£35,000.00 per year
