Job DescriptionMake your mark as ROC ROV Pilot Technician (Onshore) at Boskalis Subsea Services in Aberdeen. You will be responsible for piloting and supporting the operation of Work-Class Remotely Operated Vehicles (WROVs) from the Boskalis Remote Operations Centre (ROC). Operating via secure real-time control systems, the role contributes to safe and effective offshore subsea operations including inspection, intervention, survey, and tooling support.
The Pilot Technician works collaboratively with offshore vessel crews, ROC Supervisors, and technical teams to execute assigned tasks within defined parameters, ensuring compliance with Boskalis Subsea Services' safety, quality, and operational standards. As an entry-level position aligned to IMCA C005 Job Category R05 (Remote Pilot Grade II), this is a safety-critical role requiring validated competence and continuous professional development through the company's Competence Management Scheme.
Your responsibilities as a ROC ROV Pilot Technician:
The main responsibilities of the role include, but are not limited to;

- Execute assigned subsea tasks including inspection, survey, observation, and light intervention activities under the direction of the ROC ROV Supervisor.
- Monitor ROV system performance, data feeds, and sensor outputs to ensure accurate navigation, tether management, and mission execution.
- Conduct pre-dive checks, simulations, and post-task system diagnostics in accordance with company procedures and project requirements.
- Support offshore and ROC-based personnel in the remote fault diagnosis and basic troubleshooting of ROV systems and tooling.
- Maintain clear and effective communication with offshore crews, ROC colleagues, and client representatives to coordinate operations in real time.
- Ensure accurate and timely completion of dive logs, reports, video recordings, and data entry in line with project and audit requirements.
- A minimum of 2 years ROV experience.
- Exposure to digital or remote piloting systems (e.g. ROC-based control, networked ROV operations) – desirable.
- Valid and current IMCA Company Member Competence Certificate or completed and validated IMCA Competence Portfolio supporting completion of all ROV Senior Pilot Technician (R02) competencies – desirable.
- Documented work history via an up-to-date IMCA ROV logbook showing relevant piloting and operational support activity within the last 12 months – desirable.
- Familiarity with Work-Class ROV systems such as Kystdesign or Saab Seaeye, including basic piloting, tether management, and navigation support – desirable.
- Demonstrated understanding of subsea operational environments (e.g. inspection, observation, and light intervention scopes) – desirable.
- Experience assisting with basic fault diagnosis, pre-dive checks, and tooling changeouts is advantageous but not essential.
- Prior work in an offshore or simulation-based control environment is beneficial but not mandatory for initial appointment if supported by technical aptitude and training – desirable.
- Technical Aptitude: Ability to operate within a digital control environment; basic diagnostic and fault-finding skills.
- Competence: IMCA Company Member Competence Certificate or IMCA Competence Portfolio (R05).
- Technical qualifications: recognized technical qualification in electrical, electronic, mechanical, or hydraulic discipline (e.g. NVQ Level 3, HNC, military trade, or equivalent).
- ROV Introductory Training: successful completion of an IMCA-approved ROV Introductory Training course (IMCA R002 compliant), with valid certification.
- Team player with strong communication skills: contributes positively to team dynamics and maintains clear, respectful communication.
- Commitment to safety and standards: consistently applies safety procedures and follows work instructions precisely.
- Positive attitude and willingness to improve: open to feedback, actively seeks learning opportunities, and contributes to a learning-oriented environment.
