Role Overview

The
Construction Planner
will play a key role in the
planning, programming, and delivery
of construction and civil engineering projects from pre-construction through to completion. The successful candidate will use
Primavera P6
to develop, monitor, and update detailed project programmes, ensuring realistic sequencing, resource allocation, and efficient progress tracking across multiple live projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and manage
    project programmes
    using
    Primavera P6
    throughout the project lifecycle (tender, pre-construction, delivery, and close-out).
  • Support the
    bid and tendering process
    , producing accurate and achievable programmes to support project submissions.
  • Work closely with
    Project Managers, Site Teams, Estimators, and Design Managers
    to ensure that project milestones, dependencies, and constraints are clearly understood and managed.
  • Regularly
    update progress
    , monitor performance against baseline programmes, and report on variances, delays, and recovery actions.
  • Contribute to
    risk and opportunity assessments
    , highlighting potential impacts on delivery schedules.
  • Provide
    progress reports
    and visual presentations for internal stakeholders and client meetings.
  • Support the continuous improvement of
    planning processes, templates, and reporting tools
    across the business.
  • Ensure compliance with
    company policies
    ,
    HSE standards
    , and
    industry best practices
    .

Skills & Experience Required

  • Proven experience as a
    Construction Planner
    or
    Project Planner
    within a
    main contractor
    or
    civil engineering
    environment.
  • Proficient user of
    Primavera P6
    (essential).
  • Strong knowledge of
    construction methodologies
    , sequencing, and logistics across building and civil engineering disciplines.
  • Experience in
    developing and managing programmes
    at tender and delivery stages.
  • Excellent analytical, organisational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to interpret drawings, specifications, and project documentation.
  • Strong commercial awareness and understanding of project cost/time relationships.
  • Competent in the use of
    Microsoft Office
    and planning-related software.
  • Full UK driving licence – willingness to travel across regional sites.

Qualifications

  • Degree, HNC/HND, or equivalent in
    Construction Management
    ,
    Civil Engineering
    , or a related discipline (preferred).
  • Primavera P6 certification
    or formal training (desirable).
  • Membership of a relevant professional body (CIOB, APM, ICE) would be advantageous.
