Location: Birmingham Hybrid working pattern

Hays are partnering with a local council to recruit an Information Access and Compliance Officer. This is an exciting opportunity to join a newly formed team and play a key role in a major project. You will support the council in meeting its statutory obligations under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA), Environmental Information Regulations 2004 (EIR), and UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR).

Key Responsibilities

  • Receive, log, and track statutory information requests (FOI, EIR, SAR).
  • Liaise with internal departments to gather relevant records and data.
  • Compile and prepare draft responses, applying redactions and exemptions where appropriate.
  • Ensure responses are issued within statutory timeframes and meet legal and quality standards.
  • Maintain accurate records of requests, correspondence, and outcomes for audit and reporting purposes.

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Previous experience in an administrative or compliance role, ideally within the public sector or legal environment.
  • Experience handling FOI or Subject Access Requests (SAR).
  • Strong understanding of FOIA, EIR, and UK GDPR.
  • Knowledge of public sector transparency and accountability frameworks.
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
