Department

The Research, Innovation and Knowledge Exchange (RIKE) Directorate provides expert advice and hands-on support for all aspects of the administration of research and research-related work, including securing and managing funding, working with partners, undertaking knowledge exchange, demonstrating impact, commercialising outputs, ensuring good research practice and supporting professional development.

The Internal Funding and Programmes Team (IFPT) within RIKE provides a key service related to all internally-distributed funding from a variety of sources to support the development of research and knowledge exchange and impact in line with the University Strategic Plan objectives. The team also manages postgraduate research funding from UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) and other sources.

Role

The Training Grants Finance and Competitions Coordinator will cover both pre-award and post-award activities including supporting departments with the running of competitions and the comprehensive day-to-day financial management of all funded accounts. This will include the monitoring of project budgets (e.g., forecasting and re-profiling), income receipts and transfers, standard accounting practices (e.g., journals, accruals and prepayments), compiling and submitting financial claims in line with funder eligibility requirements.

The role will work closely with PGR-focused areas of the University, namely the York Graduate Research School, Student Education and Experience as well as Departmental and Faculty Funding Leads to manage and support a range of training grants, studentships and scholarships.

Skills, Experience & Qualification needed

You will have a deep understanding of financial management and reporting ideally in the PGR training grant landscape however we will also welcome those working in similar environments that can demonstrate transferable skills. This includes handling grant costings, budget monitoring and completing complex financial reconciliations/claim submissions to funders.

In addition the role requires strong organisational and administrative skills, including coordinating studentship competitions, managing student records, and handling general inquiries directly from students. You must also be able to work flexibly to manage and prioritise a complex caseload. You will be an excellent communicator working with a wide range of stakeholders (both external and internal). Although based in a supportive team you must be comfortable working independently and without close supervision.
