In collaboration with Dementia UK, Home Instead Hammersmith and Chiswick are looking to recruit an exceptional, registered nurse with a passion for, and experience of, providing relationship-centred dementia care to join our team as an Admiral Nurse.
Admiral Nurses are specialist dementia nurses who offer expert practical, clinical and emotional support to families involved in the care of a person with dementia with complex needs.
The successful applicant will be an NMC registered (adult/mental health/learning disability) nurse, with significant post-registration clinical experience of working with people with dementia and supporting their carers/supporters in different settings, along with formal knowledge of dementia acquired through clinical post-graduate training/education. You will receive ongoing support from Dementia UK to maintain and strengthen your clinical expertise as a specialist nurse within dementia care and will become part of the wider Admiral Nurse network, with access to relevant post-graduate learning guided by the Admiral Nurse Competency Framework.
Job DescriptionThe role is flexible, with a hybrid model; you will be based at the support office in Chiswick, London with the flexibility to work from home.
The Admiral Nurse service will focus on building the knowledge, skills and confidence of professional carers and the wider family to support families caring for the person living with dementia to remain in their home environment for as long as possible. The Admiral Nurse will act as an internal specialist resource for Home Instead Hammersmith and Chiswick, supporting the best practice of those involved in the care of the family affected by dementia, as well as developing assessment and care-planning tools for use across the network.
The Admiral Nurse will provide additional support to that already offered by Home Instead care staff and will:
Support the best practice of care staff through advice and role modelling, especially as the needs of the family become more complex
Support the best practice across Home Instead Hammersmith and Chiswick, including offering training around dementia care
Provide a range of psychosocial interventions and emotional support to families with the most complex needs
Provide consultancy around policies and processes that will improve the quality of practice and deliver specific training on topics such as positive risk management
You will be employed by Home Instead Hammersmith and Chiswick, working under the direct management of the Director. You will receive ongoing support from Dementia UK to maintain and strengthen your clinical expertise as a specialist nurse within dementia care. You will also become part of the wider network of Admiral Nurses and will have the opportunity to access relevant post-graduate courses and develop professionally, as informed by the Admiral Nurse Competency Framework.
QualificationsEssential
Registered Nurse (RMN/RNMH/RGN/RNLD).
Post-registration qualification/training in dementia.
Formal knowledge of dementia/older people acquired through clinical post-graduate education.
Willingness to complete Dementia UK's Pre-Admiral Nursing e-learning course prior to starting in post.
Willingness to work towards Level 7 qualification, including the Admiral Nurse Competency Framework module.
Desirable
Additional nursing qualifications.
Masters level qualification in dementia/older people's care.
Mentorship qualification.
Relevant teaching qualification.
