The Careers and Enterprise Centre is looking for temporary telephone assistants to contact 2024/25 Durham graduates to complete the Durham Institutional Destinations (DID) survey.

The survey is used to find out what graduates are doing six months after leaving University.

Durham University will use this information to show current students what our graduates have gone on to do and the different career paths they may want to follow.

We are hoping for a high response rate on the survey as in previous years. We really need help from committed and enthusiastic telephoners to achieve this.

Responsibilities

Telephoners will be required to ask a standard set of questions and fill in an online questionnaire for each graduate contacted.

Person Specification

Essential

  • Excellent spoken and written English

  • Professional and polite telephone manner

  • A confident computer user with good typing skills

  • Excellent ability to gather and record information accurately

  • Ability to follow directions and follow the procedure

Desirable

  • Previous customer service and telephone experience would be an advantage

  • Fluency in a foreign language

Additional Information and Interview Date

Laptop and temporary IT accounts will be provided by CIS, as students are not permitted to use their personal laptops or IT accounts.

The wage is £12.60 per hour (plus holiday pay). We are looking for 4 - 6 telephone assistants.

Telephoning will start on 26th January 2026 for approx. 4 weeks.

Hours are variable and will include evening work, but each shift is no more than 3 hours and will take place at the Careers and Enterprise Centre (in the Palatine Centre). You will be required to commit to working at least 2 shifts per week.

Training will be provided in advance, and this will be paid.
