Trainee Estimator

About the Role

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Trainee Estimator to join our construction team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to start or develop a career in construction estimating. You will assist in preparing accurate cost estimates and tender submissions for a range of construction projects, learning the key processes and systems involved in pricing and procurement.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in preparing cost estimates, quotations, and tender submissions for construction projects.
• Support senior estimators in analysing drawings, specifications, and other documents to prepare accurate quantity take-offs.
• Obtain and evaluate supplier and subcontractor quotations.
• Help maintain estimating databases, cost records, and project documentation.
• Attend site visits (as required) to gather information for estimates.
• Participate in project handover meetings to ensure smooth transition from pre-construction to delivery.
• Learn company estimating procedures, software, and construction methods.
• Contribute to continuous improvement in estimating accuracy and efficiency.

Skills & Qualifications

Essential:

• Interest in construction, quantity surveying, or estimating.
• Strong numerical and analytical skills.
• Good attention to detail and accuracy.
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other MS Office applications.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Willingness to learn and develop within the business.

Desirable:

• ONC/HNC, BTEC, or degree in Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, or a related field (or working towards).
• Some work experience (placement or otherwise) in a construction or estimating environment.
• Familiarity with estimating software such as Causeway, ConQuest, or similar.
