Senior Security Engineer II

London, Greater London, United Kingdom Forter Full time £80,000 - £120,000 per year
About the role:

As a Senior Security Engineer II in the Platform Engineering team, you'll play a critical role in securing Forter's high-scale, real-time decision-making platform. You'll drive security strategy for customer-facing products, AI offerings, and the internal platform, while balancing development velocity with robust security controls. If you're passionate about building security into the foundations, and working with fast-moving engineering teams on new applications, this role offers the autonomy and impact you're looking for.

You will be responsible for safeguarding Forter's highly sensitive internal data by designing access controls, developing security features and deploying security products in the company's cloud tech stack, including identity and access management, network infrastructure, security monitoring and automation, and more.

You will represent the Security Team as point of contact and source of knowledge in the development processes across Engineering, and work with management, InfoSec and Legal teams. You will perform threat analysis for new products and features, define security controls for implementation, and work with our in-house AI products and agents as well as third-party tools.

About the team:

We are a team of experienced security practitioners and hands-on engineers. We manage a complex set of cloud applications and infrastructure, with petabytes of sensitive data in numerous datastores and thousands of cloud compute instances providing the logic for real-time decision making. Our product is based on ML and we increasingly use LLMs in our offerings, development, and day to day processes.

The main challenge we need to meet is the security and privacy of our highly sensitive internal data. We face sophisticated external attacks in a highly available production system, and now threats related to increasing AI rollout and its rapid evolution. We work closely with product engineering teams, building new products and features while also re-evaluating and overhauling everything the company built over the years. Our interfaces are Forter's e-commerce customer companies, but also the internal R&D teams, Legal, InfoSec, and C-level management. We are enablers by nature, and maintain an excellent working relationship with other teams across R&D.

Why should you join us?

Take an active role with great impact and ownership potential, work independently and within the team to shape the security process across Engineering during an active growth phase of the company.

What you will be doing:
  • Own and innovate the security strategy for Forter's use of Generative AI, ensuring high development velocity while handling rapidly evolving threats.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to embed security best practices early, balancing protection with development velocity.
  • Perform risk assessments and negotiate with other teams on where to invest effort.
  • Design, build, promote, and maintain security infrastructure and tools used by all of Forter's engineering teams.
  • Mentor and build relationships with "Security Champions" in Engineering to design and build secure applications

Who You Are (Must-Haves)

  • 5-6+ years of experience in the relevant fields:
  • 3+ years experience in a security-focused role
  • 3+ years working with production systems in public cloud environments (AWS / GCP / Azure / Kubernetes)
  • 3+ years experience with programming and infrastructure-as-code (Python, NodeJS, Go, Terraform, CloudFormation, etc.)
  • Deep understanding of security across every layer of the stack (OS, Network, Application, Database, Storage, etc.)
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to drive cross-team security initiatives

Nice-to-Have

  • Experience with security in the AI model lifecycle, LLMs and agentic AI
  • Experience with threat modeling, security audits, penetration testing
  • Contributions to security research, blogs, talks, or open-source projects

Benefits include:

  • Competitive salary
