This is an exciting opportunity to become part of a team developing to its fullest potential a unique wildlife conservation centre in Devon.

The work is seasonal in nature, during the spring and summer your duties would include running our existing camping business of shepherds huts, campgrounds and a conference facility. You will be hosting educational visits by student groups from schools, colleges and universities. You will additionally possess the proven ability and enthusiasm to promote and grow the use of the site for this aspect of what we do. During the autumn and winter months you will be planning the curriculum for our scholarship students, hosting volunteer visits to carry out site work and working on projects with the ecology team. You will be required to promote membership growth for the Keep it Wild Trust at both an individual and corporate level. In order to achieve the forgoing you must be able to work with the team to service and promote the sites use through social media, magazines, press and any other variable PR.

Rewilding Coombeshead is a nationally important 400-acre rewilding nature site and is also home to the Species Recovery Centre. We are growing rapidly and in result require an intelligent, creative, determined and dedicated individual to help us build a base from which to shape a better future for both people, nature and the planet.

Responsibilities in Detail

The primary responsibility of the site manager role is to ensure our visitors and guests have a comfortable and pleasant stay with us.

You will need to have the ability to develop and grow the entire recreational and training use of the site in every way possible. This requirement will principally focus on servicing the site through the summer months while helping to promote the site in the winter.

You will need to have or acquire a knowledge of British wildlife and its conservation imperatives and be able to assist with the queries that occur during group tours, some of which may occur in the evenings.

To be confident and comfortable liaising with guests and students before their arrival generally via text or email confirming and planning their agenda and arrival information. Briefing guests on arrival as to where their huts and facilities can be found and at what time and location prebooked tours will leave from. You will need to coordinate guides also.

Liaising with the cleaner ensuring shepherds huts are prepared to a high standard for the new guest's arrival, (stays are generally 2 nights) Wed-Fri or Fri-Sat.

Inspecting and ensuring that other site facilities such as showers, kitchens and toilets are prepared to the required standard. Gas bottles, plus cookers in hut kitchens and communal kitchens – must be checked regularly as well as safety alarms. Communicate with suppliers for laundry and hospitality goods.

Occasionally we host larger events and conferences, you will be required to help plan these, set up facilities, coordinate arrivals and liaise and schedule volunteers.

The training of a future generation of conservationists is a vital aspect of our work, and we host scholarship students on site - planning their curriculum and providing mentoring and feedback is a key part of your role.

In the winter months as time permits you will be working with the ecology team helping on reintroduction projects as well as coordinating site activities with volunteers.

Rewilding Coombeshead generates a wealth of wonderful stories and is regularly covered in the press, capturing these stories and sharing them through the PR team is an essential part of your work, whether it be through social media or our website or directly with press or film makers.

You will need to be proactive and self-motivated, fit and possess excellent references and a clean driving licence. Living close to the site in West Devon will be essential.

Working Hours

Full-time position

Working Monday – Friday with some occasional weekend work on Saturday's (time off in lieu)

Normal hours 9am – 5pm but these must be flexible by arrangement.

Salary and Benefits

Pay is £30-36K + pension, with 20 days paid holiday.
