Suffolk Independent Domestic Violence Advisor (IDVA) Duty Referral Worker
Location Suffolk
Office Based: Ipswich
Permanent 37 hours per week
Salary £30,026 pro rata
Job Purpose:
· To manage referrals and caseloads for the Suffolk IDVA Service, to identify and provide immediate, safety planning to those identified as high risk of further significant harm, who are living with/ or fleeing domestic abuse.
· To access and respond to referrals to the IDVA service and identify pathways to support.
· To work with service users to reduce risk of further harm and to empower them to make positive choices.
· To work across Suffolk within a multi-agency framework including MARAC, Police and Community Partnership Agencies and attend forums and meeting as required.
· To ensure the risks and needs of domestic abuse victims are identified, assessed by using an evidence-based risk identification checklist and support victims to help them access services to keep themselves and their children safe.
· To participate within the on-call rota.
Essential skills and experience.
- An accredited IDVA qualification or prepared to work towards one.
- Experience of working in a voluntary or statutory agency for a minimum of two years with victims of domestic violence.
- Knowledge of The Data Protection Act, confidentiality and information sharing when working with vulnerable adults.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to be flexible and work independently/ or as part of a team. Ability to respond calmly in sometimes pressured situations.
- Experience of developing and maintaining accurate service user records.
- Reliable, enthusiastic, non-judgemental, and understanding.
- Good computer skills and experience of using Microsoft office applications.
- Good organisational skills.
The following skills and experience are desirable:
- Experience of accessing information and services using the internet.
- An understanding of domestic violence and abuse.
- An understanding of confidentiality when working with vulnerable adults.
- Knowledge of the criminal and civil justice remedies for victims of domestic abuse.
- Experience of presentation skills.
- Experience of working with multiple agencies.
- Ability to prioritise workload.
Driving license, business insurance and the ability to travel both across Suffolk and Norfolk is essential.
