Age UK Tameside is an independent local charity founded in 1974. We work in the local community to help older people remain independent and well. We have a dedicated team of staff and volunteers helping us to deliver services and activities for older people in Tameside.

Summary

At Age UK Tameside our centre is a vibrant hub for older people and Café 131 is an important part of our community offer. We provide good quality meals for older people who attend our numerous clubs and we are looking for an enthusiastic and caring individual to join our team who is committed to supporting older people to thrive in later life.

Responsibilities

To ensure the kitchen meets health and hygiene standards to meet environmental and other legal quality standards.

To undertake daily risk assessment tasks to ensure the kitchen and equipment is safe to use.

To source and purchase good quality affordable ingredients working within a set budget.

To maintain expenditure records for purchases associated with the kitchen and meal preparation.

To provide hot home cooked meals and refreshments for 131 Club customers, those attending free lunches, the seasonal winter warm project and brunch club and occasional internal events.

To oversee volunteers in the preparation, set up, serving, clearing and cleaning before and after mealtimes.

To give direction to kitchen volunteers to ensure they receive a positive volunteering experience and arrange any essential training.

To ensure all new kitchen volunteers receive an induction and that they are supported to carry out their volunteer role.

To provide support and direction the Assistant Cook, 2 days a week.

To liaise with key work staff about the dietary needs of customers to include those with food allergies, intolerance, diabetes and other cultural dietary needs and ensure these needs are recorded and implemented.

To undertake regular consultation with customers to ensure the charity has meaningful feedback and that customers have an input on the meals provided.

To undertake menu planning activities in partnership with staff that include customer feedback and the needs of the service.

To ensure the kitchen equipment is in good working order, where required equipment is ordered and replaced and that the kitchen has an annual deep clean.

To work as part of the team opening the Centre each day and carrying out risk assessment checks at the centre.

  • Qualifications
  • Proven experience in food preparation, cooking, or culinary roles.
  • Leve 3 Certificate in Food & Hygiene

  • Knowledge of food safety standards.

  • Experience working in a restaurant or similar environment is advantageous.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a caring attitude.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a team setting.
  • Flexibility to adapt to different dietary needs.
  • Commitment to providing compassionate service.
  • Previous experience serving or assisting older adults is preferred.
