Here at Serco, we're looking for Hospital Porters to join us at Forth Valley Royal Hospital, Larbert. Forth Valley Royal Hospital has 860 beds and covers a single approximately 95,000 square meters in floor space.

The successful candidate will provide an efficient portering service within Forth Valley Royal Hospital with focus on patient care escorting to and from departments and wards. The safe disposal of waste, delivery and movement of items such as records, mail, furniture, linen, medical gasses and other duties including but not limited to materials management and mortuary transfers.

The Porter will be required to self-manage their work and activities with consideration to patient care and other service requirements

Main responsibilities of the role include:

  • Written and verbal communication skills including a good telephone manner
  • Liaise with other hospital colleagues to ensure appropriate level of patient care.
  • Comply with the guidelines on confidentiality and data protection. Maintain verbal and written communication systems within the department, wards, colleagues, patients, staff and visitors.
  • Maintain verbal and written communication systems with stakeholders as required
  • Maintain written and verbal communication directly with patients throughout their journey to ensure a comfortable and safe patient experience
  • Use judgement, understanding and empathy required when attending to a patient who may require additional support during transfer.
  • Use the AGV and carry out first line response, including interacting, resetting and reporting any issues.
  • Have direct patient contact on a daily basis. Escort patients and visitors from wards or departments by wheelchair, bed or trolley when necessary.
  • Project a professional, courteous and helpful image at all times.
  • Be empathetic in communications with patients and distressed relatives
  • Responsible for escalating to security and reporting as necessary.
  • Display resilience and emotional intelligence to read and appropriately respond to the situation at hand

What you'll need to do the role:

  • Written and verbal communication skills including a good telephone manner
  • In service departmental training including but not limited to COSHH, Hand hygiene, infection control, moving and handling, health and safety, use of all equipment, customer care and awareness and training.
  • In service training will be given regarding all aspects of duties.
  • Safe handling and connection of Medical Gas Cylinders and appropriate training to ensure safe and complaint work practices.
  • Safe transportation of patients and undertaking on the job risk assessments to ensure safe manoeuvres.
  • Post holders may be subject to vetting by Government agencies.
  • Any other appropriate training as required to meet the demands of the job
  • Included AGV training details.
