Holiday entitlement

Holiday pay is paid on top of every hour worked for this role due to it's casual nature. This means 14% of your hourly rate is added to each hour's pay to cover the associated holiday and when you do not work, you are on holiday, you are not paid. Holiday is booked off via your Line Manager.

Job Purpose

As a Technical Operator at Rother Street Arts House you will be working closely with the Technical Manager to ensure every event has excellent technical support for a huge variety of exciting events and performances including theatre, comedy-nights, orchestral performances and music tribute nights.

  • You will be an integral part of the life of the community arts venue, working to keep the lights on a sound level for the community and in support of the charity's vision.
  • You will take control of operating the sound and lighting desks for performances with up to 700 audience members watching.
  • You will work with touring theatre companies, local community musical groups, in-house theatre shows, music tribute bands, dancers, acoustic groups and many more.
  • You will help with get-ins and get-outs, set-ups across the auditorium and foyer and also assist in running in-house screenings for cinematic performances or the technical requirements for hired events such as talks and AGMs, The goal is to have the space actively used throughout the year and this role is essential in making that happen both.

An understanding and compliance with appropriate health and safety requirements and legal compliance, within events of up to 700 people will be useful.

The contribution you bring will enable the community to present and be welcomed to great events that bring people together and increase their wellbeing through creative engagement.

Main Duties and Key Accountabilities

  • Technical assist in get-ins, get-outs, programming and set-up for a variety of community and commercial events.
  • Work with the team to ensure operational elements are prepared for and covered for both internal and external parties needs, for example, setting-up a floor plan of seating as a team
  • Follow and lead others to follow the required health and safety procedures and standards, including elements of legal compliance such as noise nuisance monitoring
  • Be aware of health and safety compliance for productions and visiting companies including risk management are followed and not be afraid to raise anything of note appropriately
  • Assist in welcoming, inducting and assisting companies for performances including get-ins and get-outs
  • Represent the values, vision and ethos of the organisation within daily attitude, actions, creativity and approach to work and everyone engaged with
  • Champion access and diversity by actively seeking and suggesting available accessible technology, facilities and services suitable for the venue

Person Specification

Requirements

Knowledge

Has good knowledge of theatre, band and event sound, lighting and production equipment, installation, operation and troubleshooting

Has good knowledge of technical software, ideally Q-Lab, and programming sound and lighting to high-level specifications for local, regional and nationally touring shows

Possess a basic understanding of best practice and legal requirements for operating a safe and efficient community and/or commercial venue including safeguarding, fire safety and health and safety requirements

Has knowledge of theatre, music, community and commercial event facilitation with an understanding of how they are planned

Has knowledge surrounding back-of-house best practice, fire safety and safeguarding

Skills and Abilities

Experience

Show evidence of experience in a similar technical role

Show extensive proficiency in working with technical equipment and software with a willingness to continue to develop and maintain up-to-date skills in these areas

Shows evidence of continuing personal development within the field

Qualifications & Training

Desired: training in health and safety, fire safety and risk assessment writing, work at height,
