Transport Planner

Salary: £27,000 – £32,000 per year (DOE)

Holidays: 25 days + bank holidays

Location: Chadderton, Oldham (OL9)

About the role

We're looking for a hands-on Transport Planner to join our team at R. Tindall (Fabricators) Ltd in Chadderton. You'll be responsible for day-to-day planning of loads, booking deliveries with customers, and making sure our yard and warehouse have everything they need to pick, load and despatch on time. This is a busy, fast-moving role that needs someone who's organised, calm under pressure and happy to own their workload from start to finish.

What you'll be doing

· Planning daily loads and sharing plans with our core hauliers

· Checking and responding to transport emails throughout the day and keeping customers updated.

· Confirming drivers and vehicle details for the next day's jobs and sending site contact emails with booking information.

· Chasing and recording delivery booking times for the coming days and following week, keeping the planner up to date.

· Preparing and updating the daily transport planner and attending the 11:30 loading/transport meeting, leading on load information and answering queries.

· Liaising with the Yard Manager and warehouse, so picking lists, loading sheets and priorities are clear.

· Completing and checking commercial paperwork, including commercial invoices and basic customs information for international loads (training can be provided).

· Processing courier work (e.g. DX): entering details, printing labels and communicating collections to the warehouse.

· Carrying out simple admin tasks such as scanning and filing weekly paperwork.

· Flagging any issues early (missing information, delays, capacity problems) to the Transport Manager so they can be managed, not firefighted.

About you

· Experience in a transport, traffic office or logistics planning role (manufacturing, haulage or similar environment).

· Comfortable working in a fast-paced, reactive environment where plans can change during the day.

· Able to manage your own workload and make day-to-day decisions without constant supervision.

· Clear and professional communication skills on the phone and via email with customers, drivers, hauliers and internal teams.

· Good attention to detail with paperwork and able to spot errors before they leave the office.

· Confident using Outlook and Excel (updating planners, basic spreadsheets, logging information).

· Able to work well with others – drivers, yard, warehouse and management – keeping things calm and organised.

· Practical, "get it done" attitude and takes ownership of problems rather than passing them on.
