About us

Warrington Borough Council's accountancy function are looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic individual to join the People team as a Finance Advisor. Working as part of a small team, under the guidance of the Senior Accountant for Education, the successful candidate will be working with local schools in the area providing financial advice and support.

The role

Operating under a service level agreement (SLA), the successful candidate will provide support to a portfolio of schools helping to implement effective financial management and accountability, alongside collaborative budget monitoring with the school leadership teams.

The successful candidate will be able to:

  • Prepare budget monitoring documents, with high levels of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Attend meetings with School Leaders, Finance Staff and Governors, and provide advice, support and guidance to key stakeholders in line with the SLA's purchased by the school.
  • Autonomy over your own diary, and you must ensure that work is completed per the SLA in conjunction with the schools.
  • Hybrid working - minimum two days office based.
  • Attendance at meetings can be requested from 8am in the morning to 7pm at night depending on the individual needs of the schools.
  • Meetings are held at schools across the town so it is preferable if the successful candidate can drive and has access to car for this role.
What's needed?

The successful application must be personable, confident and happy to have conversations with internal colleagues and external stakeholders at many levels. They must have the ability to be flexible to meet the demands of the role, and the different deadlines throughout the financial year.

Essential criteria of the role include:

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
  • Background of working in a financial environment.
  • Good problem-solving abilities and able to take ones own initiative.
  • Good attention to detail.
  • Good self-motivation skills.
  • Proven ability to consistently achieve tight deadlines.

Formal accountancy qualifications and previous experience of working in the Education sector are desirable but not essential.
