Job Overview
Our Client is seeking a specialist in optical/perceived quality to elevate the visual quality of interior systems (primary) and selected exterior touch-points. You'll collaborate with Design and Engineering to balance aesthetic intent with manufacturability, driving measurable improvements in fit, finish, material appearance, and consistency.
Key responsibilities
- Own perceived quality targets for interior systems; support selected exterior trim/lighting interfaces.
- Perform sectional analysis and gap/flush studies (CATIA; DVP workflows) to assess interfaces and datum strategies.
- Evaluate material/finish quality (colour, gloss, texture/grain, haze, surface defects) and assembly fidelity (common gaps, alignment, step, light-bleed).
- Define, maintain, and communicate PQ standards (golden/boundary samples, photo standards, visual guides).
- Partner with Design to refine split lines, radii, and interfaces; partner with Engineering/Suppliers to implement feasible fixes.
- Provide build-phase support (mule/prototype/PV/launch): capture issues, lead root cause, verify countermeasures.
- Present findings with annotated sections and clear recommendations; track actions to closure.
Qualifications & experience (must-have)
- Proven experience in Automotive Perceived/Optical Quality or Craftsmanship (interior trim focus preferred).
- Proficiency in CATIA (V5 or 3DEXPERIENCE) for sectioning and DVP-based analysis.
- Strong grasp of gap & flush methodology, datum schemes, tolerancing basics, and assembly of plastics/trim/lighting.
- Exceptional visual acuity for colour/texture/finish; ability to detect misalignments, inconsistency, and light-bleed.
- Effective communicator who can balance Design intent with Engineering feasibility across cross-functional teams.
Nice to have
- Exposure to metrology/inspection (CMM, 3D scanning, handheld gauges) and boundary sample management.
- Experience with illuminated components (light guides, reflectors, lenses) and artefact prevention (hot spots, haloing).
- OEM/Tier-1 launch or build-phase experience.
