The Macmillan Next Steps Cancer Rehabilitation (MNSCR) Team have an exciting opportunity for a 0.6 Band 6 Macmillan Cancer Specialist Physiotherapist post. The post holder will work to provide high quality, specialist physiotherapy care, support and treatment to cancer patients referred into the service.

The ambitions of MNSCR are to holistically support and empower people affected by cancer to take an active role in their health and care.

The three core components of the service offered by Macmillan Next Steps are:

  • 1:1 community based, clinical rehabilitation service with support based on the complexity and nature of the patients' needs
  • A suite of group support and education programmes and workshops to provide knowledge, skills and confidence to encourage self-management and adoption of healthy lifestyles, positive health and physical activity.
  • Colleagues learning and development (L&D) programme to increase health and social care professional's confidence, communication and awareness of the rehabilitation and support needs of people living with and beyond cancer.

The role of the Band 6 Cancer Specialist Physiotherapist will be to:

Undertake diagnosis, assessment and treatment of people living with or beyond cancer, to assist people adapt and cope with living with the long-term physical consequences of cancer treatment.

Oversee the physiotherapy caseload and the 'Active Everyday' programme.

Utilise your clinical expertise and teaching skills to support and educate health care professionals outside of the team in the wider system, across the acute, community and volunteer sector

You will also be involved in the wider activity programme for cancer across Gloucestershire liaising and collaborating with key stakeholders to ensure the sustainability and maintaining key relationships.

The post holder has no budgetary responsibility.

Clinical work is largely focused on the management of the side effects of various cancer interventions. This role is ideally suited to those with a strong background in rehabilitation, musculoskeletal conditions and chronic pain.

You do not need to have worked specifically within oncology, but experience is desirable. Full clinical training can be provided, along with further CPD opportunities run through Macmillan.
