About The Department
The International Legal Team for digital projects provides comprehensive strategic advice to the Digital Assets business, from navigating emerging regulatory regimes applicable to DLT and crypto assets to structuring and legal support across the full lifecycle of a digital initiative, from ideation to delivery. The team leverages the expertise of a dedicated senior resource - the International Legal Lead for Digital Assets (who will manage the candidate for this role), as well as leveraging ad hoc support from the wider International Legal Team in key jurisdictions on a project by project basis. The team is growing and expects additional dedicated resource to be added as the need develops.

Sitting in London, the candidate will form part of the EMEA legal team, of approximately 40 colleagues across Edinburgh, London, Poland, Luxembourg, Dublin, Dubai and India. The Corporate Counsel supporting digital projects will work closely with colleagues in other roles, both legal and non-legal, and stakeholders at all levels of the international business. This is a great opportunity for an enthusiastic 'go getter' who is willing to roll their sleeves up and work as a team to deliver for a particularly innovative part of Franklin's business.

How you will add value

  • Assist Digital Lead on project work, including working with a high degree of (supported) autonomy and leading calls and workstreams.
  • Develop proficient knowledge, and stay up to date, in respect of legal developments affecting digital assets (and associated 'trad fi' structures) – mutual funds, exchange traded products, distribution arrangements, across International.
  • Research and analysis of changing legal frameworks globally. Willingness to get into the detail and engage in depth in different regulations and regulatory regimes.
  • Supporting the team on policy initiatives including participating in engagement with regulators, trade bodies, and standard setters internationally.
  • Assisting with a mix of work from BAU (NDAs, distribution arrangements, IMAs) to novel (product structuring).
  • Take responsibility for product / initiative tracking and associated internal reporting.
  • Share knowledge and support interaction with International legal team, including driving best practice, supporting free communication flow, and development of relationships within legal function.
  • Develop relationships with key business partners, including in technology, sales, finance, compliance, data privacy and corporate communications teams.
  • Where appropriate attend conferences and working groups as FT's representative.
  • Lead on EU AI Act and AI related matters.

What Will Help You Be Successful In This Role

  • Independent and creative thinker.
  • High level of attention to detail and critical thinking.
  • True team player with excellent relationship building skills.
  • Seeks out challenge and comfortable operating in a flexing environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex legal projects independently.
  • Positive, 'can do' attitude with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Strong 'trad fi' product background e.g. in mutual funds. Interest in digital assets a must but experience not a necessity.
  • 3-6 years PQE although experience outside this range will be considered.
