Sheffield, Sheffield, United Kingdom Rainbow Kite Project Full time

About Rainbow Kite Project

Rainbow Kite Project is dedicated to providing quality support services and education to individuals with autism, ADHD, learning disabilities, complex needs, and PDA (Pathological Demand Avoidance).

Our EOTAS support involves supporting children and young people who may be struggling to access more traditional routes to their education. We create truly individualised support and education-other-than-at-school (EOTAS) packages that put connection, trust and emotional safety at the heart of progress.

We believe that:

  • Relationships come first – when people feel seen and valued, growth happens
  • Every child is capable – we meet them where they are and walk forward at their pace
  • Community is our classroom – learning should be meaningful, hands-on and joyful
  • Creativity and curiosity matter – we think differently so our young people can, too
  • Flexibility changes lives – no one-size-fits-all approach

If this resonates with you, you'll fit right in.

The Role

We are looking for a Specialist Support Worker to deliver bespoke, 1:1 packages for children and young people who receive EOTAS support from Rainbow Kite Project, or else support alongside our EOTAS lead for clients who need 2:1 support.

Many of our EOTAS clients have found it hard to learn in traditional education environments, and may have experienced trauma, anxiety, autistic burnout, school-based avoidance or social disengagement. You will work in homes, community spaces and outdoor settings, helping each young person re-discover confidence, curiosity and connection—while embedding learning through real-world experiences.

Your role will include:

  • Providing 1:1 or 2:1 relational, strengths-based support in the community and at home
  • Delivering elements of EOTAS education packages through creative, experiential learning
  • Meeting young people at their level – emotionally, socially and developmentally
  • Building trust with families, professionals and other agencies
  • Encouraging progress in social, emotional, independence and communication skills
  • Using curiosity, flexibility and reflective practice to adapt moment-by-moment
  • Keeping high-quality records and contributing to personalised planning

About You (The Ideal Candidate)

You will thrive in this role if you are someone who:

is calm, compassionate and emotionally attuned

instinctively puts relationship before expectation

is confident working with neurodivergent young people

can think on your feet and adapt plans creatively

genuinely enjoys being out in the community

sees behaviour as communication

is reflective, self-aware and committed to trauma-informed practice

works well independently and can manage their own time

is reliable, responsible and highly skilled in relational support

Relevant backgrounds may include SEN, SEMH, social care, youth work, therapy, psychology, education, mentoring, play or outdoor learning.

What We Offer

  • £16–£20 per hour depending on skills and experience
  • A meaningful role where your work has visible impact
  • A supportive, reflective and values-led team
  • Ongoing CPD, professional curiosity and space to grow
  • Flexibility and trust in your professional autonomy
  • The chance to help shape something special and innovative
