The Growth Company's (GC) Business Growth Hub (BGH) seeks a Manufacturing Advisor to deliver high quality specialist business growth advice to a portfolio of ambitious manufacturing and engineering business owners and senior managers.

The role will support these clients to review business models, reduce costs, manage cash flow, boost staff performance, address skills needs, improve quality, optimise supply chains, enter new markets, and win new business – culminating in increased productivity and profitability. If you're passionate about manufacturing and would like to impart your knowledge and experience to the manufacturing community of Greater Manchester, then this is the role for you. This is a great opportunity to join an enthusiastic team of fellow Manufacturing Advisors doing just that.

As part of our recruitment process, shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend a first-stage interview via Microsoft Teams during the week commencing 8th December. Successful applicants will then be invited to a second-stage, face-to-face interview on Friday 19th December.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure delivery of Manufacturing Services to maximise client growth potential and achieve outputs like improved productivity, GVA growth, and sustainability.
  • Undertake detailed discussions with clients to understand business challenges and recommend actions for growth.
  • Complete diagnostics of businesses to identify needs and opportunities for growth plans.
  • Deliver bespoke growth support and workshops on manufacturing principles.
  • Introduce clients to additional services and monitor their delivery.
  • Monitor impact and outputs, including productivity, innovation, and sustainability.
  • Collect impact and output data throughout projects.
  • Handle client enquiries, assess growth potential, and maintain effective relationships.

About You:

  • Degree level qualification in manufacturing, management, or business discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • Over 10 years of manufacturing experience in the private sector (candidates with less experience but necessary skills will be considered).
  • Team player and self-starter with a professional approach to managing business assessment and development.

Skills Required:

  • Manufacturing knowledge (strategy, leadership, KPIs, lean tools, financial management, sales, and marketing).
  • Customer-focused approach to foster engagement and commitment to economic development.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to identify opportunities and be innovative.
  • Excellent communication, networking, client acquisition, and account management skills.
  • Project management, planning, organisational, and administrative skills.
  • Well-developed IT skills, including CRM systems and spreadsheets.
  • Presentation skills, both written and oral.

The role requires frequent travel to factories around the Greater Manchester region in person delivering one-to-one support, building a close working relationship with the client to understand their needs and deliver a detailed improvement growth plan.

At GC, safeguarding the welfare of all individuals including vulnerable adults and young people is a top priority, and we expect all staff to uphold this standard. All appointments follow Safer Recruitment Procedures, including a DBS check carried out by Due Diligence Limited (DDC Ltd), at no cost to the successful candidate.

Please note: It is a legal offence to apply for a role involving regulated activity if you are on the Barred List.

We are committed to increasing workforce diversity and offer a guaranteed interview to applicants who meet the essential criteria and either have a disability or are from a diverse ethnic community.

If this applies to you, you can request consideration under this scheme during the application process. Your request will be shared only with the Hiring Manager and Internal Recruitment Team.

We also aim to make our recruitment process inclusive and accessible. If you need reasonable adjustments or have any general enquiries at any stage or the recruitment process, please contact or call us on

Examples include:

  • Meeting the hiring manager or touring the venue in advance
  • Extra time for tasks
  • Interview questions shared beforehand
  • Accessibility software or equipment for assessments

We're proud to support the Ban the Box campaign, which helps people with convictions access job opportunities. As part of this, we've removed questions about convictions from the initial application stage.

GC is committed to fostering a culture of flexibility and agile working. Many roles will increasingly support full agile arrangements. If you require more permanent flexibility, we encourage you to discuss this during your interview so your request can be considered early in the process.

All GC colleagues will work inline with the Health & Safety at work act and the GC Health & Safety Policy.
