All About The Role
We are seeking a highly experienced and motivated
Principal Engineer (Development Control - Transport)
to work as a subject matter expert within our
Highway Development
team. This is a pivotal role within the council, supporting both the team and wider departments in delivering sustainable growth through expert guidance in transport planning and highway development. You will be instrumental in shaping the future of our communities by ensuring that transport infrastructure aligns with planning policies, development proposals, and the council's strategic objectives. Your work will directly contribute to creating accessible, safe, and sustainable environments for residents and businesses.
You will require extensive experience of the planning process and an in-depth working knowledge of transport modelling and the associated software packages; ARCGIS, TRICs, LinSig and Junctions 11 being able to operate unassisted in this field. The role is not limited to transport modelling as you will have the opportunity to work across a wide spectrum of highway development activities, including:
- Planning Applications – providing expert transport and highway advice to shape sustainable development proposals.
- Section 38 Road Adoption Applications – guiding the process of adopting new roads into the public highway network.
- Section 278 Highway Works Applications – overseeing agreements for improvements to the existing highway as part of development schemes.
- On-Site Collaboration – working closely with the site team to see developments come to life, ensuring that design intent is delivered effectively on the ground.
