is seeking a highly organised and detail-focused
Legal Cashier
to join our expanding Manchester office. This role is essential to maintaining the financial integrity and compliance of the firm. You will work closely with partners, fee earners, and our external accountants to ensure accurate financial management across all areas of the practice.

A
CRB (background) check will be carried out
as part of the recruitment process.

About the Role

You will manage the day-to-day financial operations of the firm, ensuring full compliance with the Solicitors Accounts Rules (SARs)
. The role includes handling client and office transactions, conveyancing finance processes, daily reconciliations, supplier payments, and administrative duties connected to HR and office operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare daily banking including cheque lodgements and incoming BACS
• Input credit card transactions from partner statements
• Process client debit/credit card payments
• Post bills, credit notes and adjustments
• Manage the
  purchase ledger
  , liaise with suppliers, and reconcile statements
• Handle
  conveyancing completions
  and all related financial tasks
• Maintain petty cash and ensure accurate reconciliation
• Process
  transfers between accounts
  (client office) in accordance with SARs
• Monitor and resolve
  residual balances
  , especially for conveyancing matters
• Maintain and reconcile
  client ledgers
• Accurately post all client and office transactions
• Administer online banking
  , including setting up payments
• Pay disbursements, expenses, and firm invoices promptly
• Prepare and complete
  accounting reconciliations
  (bank, client, suspense etc.)
• Post journals, corrections and month-end adjustments
• Process
  PAYE
  and assist with other payroll-related tasks
• Ensure complete compliance with the
  Solicitors Accounts Rules
• Liaise with the firm's external accountants as required
• Assist senior management, partners, and HR with administrative and financial tasks
• Order office supplies and maintain stock control
• Archive and arrange transport of completed conveyancing files
• General filing and record-keeping
• Assist with financial audits, SRA inspections
  , and internal reporting
• Support with
  year-end accounts preparation
  and documentation collation
• Undertake any additional duties required to support the smooth running of the firm

About You

• Previous experience as a
  Legal Cashier
  in a UK law firm is essential
• Strong understanding of the
  Solicitors Accounts Rules (SARs)
• High level of accuracy, organisation, and integrity
• Confident handling confidential financial data
• Proficient in online banking, reconciliations, and ledger management
• Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
• Excellent communication skills when liaising with suppliers, fee earners, and management
• Experience with conveyancing finance processes highly desirable
• Proactive, dependable, and able to work independently as well as part of a team
• Must pass a CRB background check
• Experience with case management systems such as Proclaim
