Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Locum Anaesthetic SPR to join the Anaesthetics Department at NHS TRUST The post involves providing safe and effective anaesthesia services across theatres, emergency lists, obstetrics, and critical care support as required. The successful candidate will be expected to independently manage anaesthetic cases at middle-grade level and integrate smoothly into the existing rota.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver safe anaesthetic care for elective and emergency surgical cases.
- Provide obstetric anaesthesia, including epidurals and emergency caesarean section support (if competent).
- Support airway management in theatres, ED, and ICU when required.
- Participate in the anaesthetic middle-grade rota, including nights and weekends (if applicable).
- Pre-operative assessment and optimisation of patients.
- Assist in post-operative pain management and follow-up care.
- Work collaboratively with consultants, junior doctors, ODPs, and theatre staff.
- Maintain high-quality clinical documentation in line with GMC and NHS standards.
- Participate in departmental teaching, simulation sessions, morbidity & mortality meetings, and governance activities.
Essential Qualifications & Requirements
- GMC registration with a full licence to practise.
- Minimum ST4+ level experience in Anaesthetics within the NHS.
- ALS certification (Advanced Life Support).
- Ability to independently manage:
- General anaesthesia
- Spinal and regional blocks (as per competence)
- Emergency airway management
- Strong communication, teamwork, and decision-making skills.
Desirable Qualifications
- AAGBI safer airway management course or equivalent.
- ATLS (Advanced Trauma Life Support).
- Experience in ICU/Critical Care.
- Previous UK-based middle-grade obstetric anaesthesia experience.
- Evidence of participation in audits, QI projects, or research.

Contract length: 6 months
Pay: £54.00-£80.00 per hour
Expected hours: 45 – 50 per week
