Personal Wellbeing Mentor

Salary: £26,227.50

Locations: Birmingham

Contract: Full Time Permanent

Rebuilding your life after sentencing is one of the toughest challenges a person can face. But with the right support, it's possible. That's where you come in.

We're looking for a Personal Wellbeing Mentor - someone with a rare mix of compassion, resilience, organisation, self-motivation and flexibility. This is for the person who understands that rehabilitation isn't just about offering advice; it's about rolling up your sleeves and pro-actively supporting someone on their journey.

This is a demanding role; you'll be working in a challenging environment with people who have complex needs and who can be reluctant to engage. But when you help someone break the cycle and you see them take real steps toward transforming their life, it's a great feeling.

About the Role:

You will support a caseload of service users that may be due to be released from prison, recently released from prison, serving a suspended sentence, or on community orders. Based out of local probation offices, you will be meeting with service users in their local community, to support them with accessing social groups, healthcare, and various appointments. You will work collaboratively with Personal Wellbeing advisors, probation, and other external services to support them on their journey.

You'll often be able to plan your own schedule, but you will need to be able to prioritise effectively - it's a challenging role where no day will be the same.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Community-based support:  You will guide individuals as per their action plan, to help them reintegrate into the community. This could be through practical well-being activities, mental health support, GP and dentist registration, or accessing food and clothing. You will be responding to individual needs, being pro-active, and tailoring your support accordingly.
  • Collaboration: Your intervention may be part of a wider support package so collaborating with internal and external colleagues is a key part of the role.
  • Caseload management: You'll manage multiple individuals, balancing their needs while keeping up with all the related admin. You will case-conference with advisors regularly.
  • Quality Recording: Keep thorough, up-to-date records of all your work on our IT systems, ensuring nothing falls through the cracks and progress is properly tracked.
  • Community Outreach, Group & 121 Delivery: Deliver wellbeing support in various settings, either through tailored support sessions, out and about in the community, or utilising set interventions and learning materials.

What We're Looking For:

  • Relationship Building: You're able to connect with people at all levels, building relationships with Service Users in a way that's genuine, promotes a sense of trust and is non-judgmental. You will pay particular attention to confidentiality and maintenance of boundaries. Alongside this you will be engaging with key stakeholders within Probation and external agencies to build a network of support services for Service Users.
  • IT and Administrative skills: Keeping meticulous records of every interaction to measure client progress and ensure effective interventions.
  • Organisation: You can handle a busy caseload and stay on top of detailed records.
  • Resilience: This role can be challenging, and results may take time, but you are the kind of person who stays committed and sees things through.
  • Flexibility: You'll need to be comfortable with change, as referral flows change frequently.

Whilst we welcome applications from those with lived experience, this role requires an enhanced DBS check and HMPPS EL1 vetting. As we wait for the necessary background checks to be completed, you'll have plenty of opportunities to shadow your colleagues, ask questions, and learn the ropes.

Our Justice division is dedicated to transforming lives and creating safer communities. Our mission is to reduce reoffending, build stronger communities, and help people realise their potential.

At Ingeus, we've spent time listening to our employees to build our benefits package;

  • 25 days of annual leave plus bank holidays, with the option to trade for additional leave.
  • EAP Support programme available 24/7, including 6 free counselling sessions.
  • Private medical insurance and life assurance.
  • Up to 2 days of Community Giving (volunteering) each year to support a cause that matters to you.
  • Eyecare vouchers to help with glasses or eye care.
  • Online Shopping discounts
  • Cycle to Work scheme and travel season ticket loan.
  • Long service awards to celebrate your commitment.
  • Salary Finance offering financial education and advice.
  • The opportunity to purchase extra benefits like critical illness cover and dental insurance.

We understand that everyone's journey is different, and we're committed to making our recruitment process as inclusive and accessible as possible. If you require any support or adjustments—whether that's help with the application, interview format, or anything else—we're here to listen and work with you to find the best approach.

Our goal is to ensure you can showcase your skills and potential in a way that works for you. Please don't hesitate to contact us at to discuss how we can support you

If you think you have what it takes, don't delay and apply today - If we receive enough applications, this role may close early.
