Agricultural Account Handler

Salary: Circa £28,000 - £35,000 (dependant on experience)

Contract: Full Time, Permanent

Location: Thirsk or York

Hours:

  • Monday – Friday, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm (1-hour lunch), or
  • 4 days per week, 8:30 am – 5:30 pm (30-minute lunch)

An exciting opportunity has now arisen within the Vale of York Agency.

About the Role

As an Agricultural Account Handler, you'll play a key part in supporting the Agency's farming and rural insurance portfolio. You'll be helping our clients protect what matters most — their land, livestock, machinery, vehicles, homes and businesses.

This is a varied role combining customer service, administration, and account management. You'll work closely with our experienced team and have the opportunity to develop your knowledge of insurance and the rural sector, with full support toward professional qualifications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Client Support: Provide an exceptional service to our farming and rural customers, handling queries efficiently and professionally.
  • Account Management: Assist with renewals, mid-term adjustments and new policies, ensuring all documentation and records are accurate and compliant.
  • Relationship Building: Develop and maintain strong relationships with farmers, landowners, and rural business owners across the Vale of York region.
  • Cross-Selling: Identify opportunities to introduce customers to NFU Mutual's wider product range — including Financial Services, Risk Management, and Health & Safety Consultancy.
  • New Business Development: Support sales initiatives to attract new agricultural and rural clients, contributing to the agency's growth targets.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with colleagues and management to share knowledge, stay informed of product updates, and deliver a seamless customer experience.
About You

We're looking for someone who combines great customer service skills with a genuine interest in the rural and agricultural community.

Essential Skills & Qualities:

  • Experience providing excellent customer service in an office or administrative environment
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills — confident engaging with farmers, rural business owners, and commercial clients alike
  • Organised and detail-oriented with the ability to prioritise and manage multiple tasks
  • A positive, team-focused attitude with a willingness to learn
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and comfortable using CRM systems (experience with customer databases and social media is an advantage)
  • A knowledge of or background in agriculture or the rural community would be beneficial but not essential
