SEND Teaching Assistant – Autism Specialist Unit
Pay: £ £105.00 per day
Location: Secondary School, Barnet
Contract: Full-time, Term-time only

The Role
We are seeking a SEND Teaching Assistant to support students with ASC across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide one-to-one and small group support in structured, visually supported learning environments.
- Implement communication strategies such as PECS, Makaton, and BSL to promote independence and engagement.
- Support sensory regulation and emotional wellbeing using proactive, low-arousal approaches.
- Assist with academic and social development activities tailored to individual needs.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and families to extend learning beyond the classroom.
What We're Looking For
- Experience working with autistic students in a school setting (secondary experience desirable).
- Knowledge of communication systems (PECS, Makaton, BSL) and autism-specific strategies.
- Patient, adaptable, and proactive individuals who can respond to complex needs.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills.
