SEND Teaching Assistant – Autism Specialist Unit

Pay: £ £105.00 per day

Location: Secondary School, Barnet

Contract: Full-time, Term-time only

Start Date: Immediate

The Role

We are seeking a SEND Teaching Assistant to support students with ASC across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support in structured, visually supported learning environments.
  • Implement communication strategies such as PECS, Makaton, and BSL to promote independence and engagement.
  • Support sensory regulation and emotional wellbeing using proactive, low-arousal approaches.
  • Assist with academic and social development activities tailored to individual needs.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and families to extend learning beyond the classroom.

What We're Looking For

  • Experience working with autistic students in a school setting (secondary experience desirable).
  • Knowledge of communication systems (PECS, Makaton, BSL) and autism-specific strategies.
  • Patient, adaptable, and proactive individuals who can respond to complex needs.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills.
