Portsmouth, Portsmouth, United Kingdom Kingdom People - Professional Services Full time £50,000 - £70,000 per year

Are you an experienced HV Electrical Design professional looking to step into a role that genuinely shapes large-scale infrastructure across one of the UK's most unique engineering environments? This opportunity offers the chance to lead high-voltage design solutions on complex, mission-critical projects that directly support national defence.

Tell me more…

You'll join a collaborative, multi-discipline engineering function, reporting into the Principal Electrical Design Manager, and take responsibility for delivering HV design solutions from initial concept through to in-service delivery. This includes developing detailed Statements of Requirement, managing RIBA design stages, ensuring compliance with all relevant standards, and supporting the full lifecycle from feasibility to commissioning.

This role will suit someone who thrives in a technical, fast-paced and highly collaborative environment—someone confident engaging with project managers, design teams, construction teams and stakeholders across a diverse estate.

What will you be doing?

• Leading the design and development of high-voltage electrical distribution systems (up to 33kV)

• Delivering projects from early-stage scope through RIBA stages to completion and in-service support

• Conducting HV power system studies (load flow, fault level, protection studies, transient analysis etc.) using ETAP or similar

• Interpreting design briefs and providing effective solutions aligned with strategic and environmental objectives

• Ensuring compliance with IEC, IEEE, BS and other applicable standards

• Working collaboratively with multi-discipline engineers, project managers and procurement

• Reviewing and validating technical submissions, drawings and documentation

• Mentoring junior engineers and supporting capability development across the team

• Managing project timescales, risks, dependencies and technical governance throughout the lifecycle

What do you need?

• Degree in Electrical Engineering (BEng/MEng) – chartered or working towards chartership

• Strong technical knowledge of HV distribution, protection schemes and substation design

• Experience working on medium to high-complexity HV electrical infrastructure projects

• Proficiency in ETAP, AutoCAD or similar design tools

• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work under time pressure

• Excellent communication, influencing and stakeholder management skills

• A proactive, analytical and solutions-focused mindset

What's in it for you?

• Competitive salary up to £70,000

• 25 days holiday plus bank holidays

• Enhanced pension

• Life assurance

• Group income protection

• Cycle to Work scheme

• Flexible parental benefits

• Internal benefits and discounts platform

• Occupational Health & Wellbeing support

• Kudos recognition programme

• Professional development and funded training opportunities

• 50% off Historic Dockyard entry

This is an exceptional opportunity to work within one of the most unique engineering environments in the UK, playing a key role in projects that directly support the Royal Navy's operational capability.

If you're ready to lead high-impact HV design projects with autonomy, technical challenge and meaningful purpose—this could be your next step.
