Job Description
We are seeking a passionate and motivated Second in Drama to join a thriving secondary school in Essex. This is an exciting leadership opportunity for an experienced Drama teacher looking to contribute to the development of the performing arts while supporting the Head of Department in raising standards of teaching and learning.
As Second in Drama, you will play a key role in planning and delivering an engaging and ambitious Drama curriculum. You'll inspire students to express themselves, build confidence, and develop performance skills that extend beyond the classroom. Alongside your teaching responsibilities, you'll help drive departmental initiatives, mentor colleagues, and support extracurricular activities such as productions, showcases, and theatre visits.

Key Responsibilities
Teach high-quality Drama lessons across Key Stages
Assist the Head of Drama in leading the department and developing curriculum plans
Support and mentor colleagues, sharing best practice in Drama teaching
Contribute to school-wide initiatives and strategic goals
Promote creativity, confidence, and teamwork through Drama activities
Plan and direct extracurricular performances, productions, and theatre trips
Monitor student progress and support high standards of achievement
Uphold behaviour policies and foster a positive classroom environment
Qualifications and Experience
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and degree in Drama, Performing Arts, or related subject
Proven experience teaching Drama at secondary school level
Evidence of leadership experience or taking on departmental responsibility (desirable)
Strong classroom management skills and excellent subject knowledge
Ability to inspire and motivate students of all abilities
Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people
Enthusiasm for extracurricular Drama and school productions
