About the role
To assist in technical assessments/activities using skills that would have been gained through qualifications and practical experience/site supervision, to support the delivery of the Building Control service through the Council's scheme of delegation in relation to the Building Act 1984 etc., ensuring buildings comply with the relevant regulatory standards in terms of health, safety, sustainability, energy conservation, accessibility, and design;
To be able to evaluate a range of projects with specific focus on residential schemes and simple commercial buildings, examining plans and carrying out site inspections, under the management/supervision of the Deputy Head of Building Control and guidance of subordinates roles;
To focus on professional development within the Building Control discipline whilst aspiring to continually improve experience, knowledge, and competency necessary for the assessment of more complex building projects;
To support the Deputy Head of Building Control, as necessary, in the delivery of the Building Control service.

About you
- Educated to degree level in a relevant subject such as Building Control, Building Surveying, Construction, Structural Engineering and/or be able to demonstrate learning at an equivalent level.
- Demonstrate broad knowledge of the construction industry, methods, techniques, and materials.
- Broad knowledge of legislation, regulations, and professional codes of practice for the service area, including the Building Act 1984, and associated Building Control functions offered by a local authority
- Have a good understanding of professional boundaries and how they impact on service delivery within the setting of local government.
