Are you a seasoned credit professional with a passion for structuring complex deals and balancing risk with opportunity? Secure Trust Bank is looking for a
Director of Underwriting
to play a pivotal role in driving the success of our
Asset Based Lending (ABL)*
division.

In this highly visible senior role, you'll lead the assessment, structuring, and underwriting of new credit opportunities, working closely with our new business team to deliver tailored funding solutions that support our growth ambitions and client needs. You'll combine commercial acumen with technical expertise to safeguard portfolio quality while enabling strategic opportunities.

*What You'll Do*

  • Lead Underwriting: Manage transactions from initial mandate through Credit Committee approval and execution.
  • Assess Risk: Conduct in-depth analysis of prospective clients, financial performance, assets, and forecasts.
  • Structure Deals: Recommend covenants and credit structures that align with risk appetite and client needs.
  • Drive Governance: Ensure compliance with credit policies, regulatory requirements, and audit standards.
  • Collaborate: Work with legal counsel and internal teams to deliver robust documentation and commercially sound outcomes.
  • Mentor & Influence: Support junior colleagues, share expertise, and contribute to the development of best practices.
  • Engage Stakeholders: Act as a senior point of contact for clients, advisors, and introducers throughout the deal process.

*What We're Looking For*

  • Extensive experience in corporate credit assessment, ideally within ABL or structured debt finance.
  • Strong technical knowledge of debt structures, security arrangements, and regulatory frameworks.
  • Proven track record of underwriting mid-market transactions (£5m–£60m).
  • Advanced financial analysis skills and ability to interpret complex data.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience presenting credit submissions at senior committees.
  • Degree and/or relevant industry qualifications preferred.
