Position Summary

The Duty Manager oversees daily operations during assigned shifts, ensuring smooth functioning of the business, maintaining high service standards, and acting as the first point of contact for staff and customers. The role involves coordinating departments, resolving issues promptly, and ensuring compliance with company policies and safety regulations.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Management

  • Oversee day-to-day operations during the shift.
  • Monitor workflow across departments to ensure efficiency.
  • Ensure all opening, closing, and handover procedures are completed correctly.
  • Address operational issues or emergencies and escalate when needed.

Customer Service

  • Act as the senior contact for customers during the shift.
  • Handle customer inquiries, complaints, and feedback professionally.
  • Ensure service standards are maintained and customer satisfaction is high.

Staff Supervision

  • Lead and support employees on shift.
  • Allocate tasks and coordinate staff breaks and schedules.
  • Provide on-the-spot coaching, motivation, and performance support.
  • Ensure staff follow safety, hygiene, and operational procedures.

Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure all health, safety, and security policies are followed.
  • Conduct routine checks of equipment, premises, and safety systems.
  • Record incidents and report risks or hazards promptly.

Administration & Reporting

  • Complete shift and incident documentation
  • Oversee cash handling and floats
  • Communicate important updates to management and incoming shifts.

Skills & Qualifications

Essential

  • Strong leadership and decision-making abilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to stay calm and effective under pressure.
  • Experience in customer-facing roles, ideally in hospitality, retail, facilities, or similar sectors.
  • Good organisational and problem-solving skills.

Desirable

  • Previous supervisory or management experience.
  • Knowledge of safety and compliance procedures.
  • First aid qualification

Typical Working Conditions

  • Shift-based work, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Fast-paced environment requiring quick thinking and multitasking.
  • May involve standing for extended periods and responding to urgent situations.

Job Types: Part-time, Zero hours contract
