Job Overview

The Sleeper Store is seeking a skilled and passionate baker to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in baking ensuring high standards of quality and food safety are maintained throughout the process. Your creativity and attention to detail will play a crucial role in producing fresh and delicious products. Our core business is baking bagels: hand rolled, boiled & baked in small batches. The job covers 5 days per week baking, the baking shift begins at 5am or 6am depending on the day of week (with Friday & Saturday essential days of work). Anticipated 35hrs week but negotiable.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and bake bagels as a core role; also include baking bread, pastries and cakes.
  • Follow recipes accurately to ensure consistency in flavour and presentation.
  • Assist in the planning and development of new recipes and menu items.
  • Operate and maintain bakery equipment.
  • Manage baking supplies and ingredients, ensuring stock levels are maintained.
  • Collaborate with kitchen staff to ensure smooth operations during busy periods.
  • Clean down and sign-off work area at end of shift.

Qualifications

  • Strong culinary skills with experience in food preparation and production.
  • Proficient in baking techniques and methods.
  • Knowledge of food safety regulations and best practices.
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to multitask effectively.
  • A creative mindset with a passion for developing new recipes.
  • Previous experience in a bakery environment.
  • 3-4 years minimum experience.
  • Punctuality is essential with the ability to work early shifts.
  • Team player.
