We are currently recruiting for a Shift Manager for our cables factory. Who will be responsible for around 35 team members on the shopfloor.
Working on a 4on/4off continuous shift pattern days and nights (7am-7pm/7pm-7am)
Key activities and responsibilities include:
Compliance
- Ensure compliance with both Site and Company Health and Safety Policies and that Health and Safety standards are always maintained.
- Act as 'out of hours' health and safety contact, escalating to the Production Manager as required.
- Act as a role model for safety behaviours and practices, while re-enforcing correct behaviours of team members through regular behavioural safety observations.
- Undertake initial investigation of accidents / incidents, providing a statement of facts and conducting initial investigations and identifying countermeasures.
- Ensure compliance with Quality standards are always maintained. Conducting investigations if trigger levels are breached.
- Manage and support team leaders through the Short Interval Control (SIC) process, ensuring that standards are on target and any deviations have a clear action plan.
- Report details of downtime losses. If a downtime event breaches the trigger level, the Shift Manager along with team members will conduct an initial investigation and identify countermeasures.
- Ensure team members conduct thorough handovers, completing handover logs to the platinum standard, to ensure all team members have the required information to succeed.
- Ensure all team members have completed all Operator Daily Checks and any housekeeping/cleaning tasks.
Communication
- Responsible for effective communication with the Production teams, supporting them with the delivery of briefings / one point lessons.
- Provide an effective handover to the incoming Shift Manager, to ensure that any outstanding actions can be completed and to give an accurate indication of shift performance.
- Compile and distribute to the Site Leadership Team a shift report, using the defined standard format, outlining the performance of each shift, any issues and actions taken.
- Conduct a 'start' and 'end' of shift meeting with SM and Maintenance to agree priorities and drive actions.
- Support production leads in the delivery of the daily summary and escalation meeting.
- Support cross department communication, acting as a facilitator, ensuring prompt resolution of problems (e.g. between Maintenance and Production).
People Matters
- Support the production leads in the identification of training needs and ensure that training activities are completed.
- Organise overtime, ensuring that cover is in place, in accordance with Site rules and controls.
- Act as the first point of contact for People Issues; escalating to the Production Manager, as required.
- Act as the first point of contact for Absence Reporting; provide absence notification to the Site Leadership Team and ensure reasons for absence are accurately reported, using the defined standard format.
- Conduct Return to Work Interviews with employees following periods of absence and provide feedback to the Production Manager, using the defined standard format.
- Monitor timekeeping and lateness, escalating to the Production Manager as required.
- Manage holiday, in line with predefined site rules, escalating issues to the Production Manager.
- One to one with shop floor people
Process Flow Management
- Manage Process Flow by monitoring WIP and Non-conforming product during the shift, setting the following shift up to succeed against the Production Plan.
- Involvement in the development of the Daily Production Plan, working alongside Production Control / Logistics.
- Ensure adherence to the daily Production Plan, responding to forced changes (e.g. Absence) as they arise.
- Understand the importance of standards, know the standards, detect the deviations from the standards and challenge constructively.
- Provide a visible presence on the shop floor, providing a point of contact for the resolution of problems.
- Act as the principal site contact 'out of hours.
THE PERSON
- Significant cable making experience.
- Knowledge of extrusions processes.
- Experience operating computer-controlled manufacturing processes.
- Have a good understanding of 6S and housekeeping.
- Pro-active with a positive attitude.
- PC literate – including data input, quality control and accessing data.
- Excellent interpersonal, team working and communication skills.
- Self-starter, positive attitude and prepared to take the initiative.
