The Nurse Specialist for Reducing Restrictive Practice (RRP) will be responsible for leading and developing a least restrictive, evidence based, person-centred culture within GMMH. They will be responsible for setting, maintaining and developing professional standards for clinical staff within in-patient and community services. The postholder will support clinical teams with the care of service users who have high level needs that require specialist input. The postholder will work as an autonomous practitioner providing advanced expert clinical nursing practice.

The post holder must demonstrate codesign and coproduction skills throughout their workplan. Key to the delivery of this role is the development and delivery of the GMMH least restrictive practice strategy

This role specifically requires leadership and indepth knowledge of the Use of Force Act and the legal obligations for Mental Health units. As such the postholder is expected to have working practice within inpatient mental health settings as a clinical nurse. The postholder will be supported with expertise through HOPE(s) practitioners in the organisation as well as Human Rights Officers.

The postholder is responsible for the delivery of the training programme (known as PMVA) overseeing the management of the team and ensuring compliance with the contractual standards for training aligned to NHSE standards and Restraint Reduction Network Standards. Additionally, the postholder will develop the Trusts RRP educational programme to support clinical practice both within the Care Groups and across the Trust. They will be expected to review data on a frequent basis to assure quality of information and return to national databases. In addition, the postholder will utilise data to establish work programmes and improvements. The Nurse Specialist in RRP will lead on specific emerging clinical practice across the Trust as well as promoting research and ensuring high standards of Nursing and Professional Practice within in-patient and/or community services.
