Opportunity
We're looking for a Principal Infrastructure Engineer to join our Technology team within Tesco Insurance and Money Services.
As Principal Infrastructure Engineer you'll be accountable for the strategic leadership, design, and delivery of the organisation's technology infrastructure across network, desktop and security domains.
Operating within a regulated financial services context, this role ensures that infrastructure platforms are secure, resilient, and compliant with industry standards and regulatory requirements (e.g. FCA, PRA, GDPR). Please note this role is known as Principal Engineer in Tesco Insurance and Money Services.
The Role
You may oversee both internal engineering teams and external service providers, ensuring all infrastructure initiatives align with enterprise architecture, operational policies, and governance frameworks. The Principal Infrastructure Engineer drives innovation, automation, and continuous improvement while maintaining robust controls around availability, performance, and risk management.
This position plays a critical role in enabling business agility, supporting digital transformation, and ensuring the infrastructure estate can scale securely to meet evolving customer and regulatory demands.
You'll have (min experience)

• Ability to lead and develop high-performing internal teams and manage external service providers.
• Deep understanding of enterprise networking, EUC, security, storage and platform services.
• Strong knowledge of cloud platforms (e.g., Azure, AWS) and infrastructure-as-code (e.g., CloudFormation, Terraform, ARM templates).
• Familiarity with high-availability architectures, disaster recovery, and business continuity planning.
• Experience in delivering large-scale infrastructure programmes aligned to business and regulatory requirements.
• Strong knowledge of security frameworks and best practice approaches with proven experience implementing secure infrastructure solutions with robust access controls, auditability, and data protection.
