Make a profound difference in the life of a vulnerable child.
Are you a skilled professional with a passion for supporting young people? This Specialist Foster Carer role offers a challenging yet rewarding opportunity to provide a stable, family home for a child. You'll play a crucial role in their journey, offering support, guidance, security and care.
Requirements and responsibilities
Derby City, Nottingham City and Derbyshire County and Nottinghamshire County Councils are looking for Specialist Foster Carers who can look after young people moving from residential care into foster family life.
The young people are likely to have complex needs requiring a higher level of care, support and nurturing to make a real difference to their lives and future. They may have experienced multiple placements and will be managing behaviours due to traumatic life events.
Specialist Foster Carers will have experience in caring or working with young people from a range of areas e.g. residential childcare, school or nursing settings.
You, or somebody in your household, will need to be available as a full-time Carer, be able to drive and have access to a car, be home-based, have a spare bedroom and be motivated to work with a team of professionals.
As a Specialist Foster Carer you will be self-employed.
Carers will be matched with a young person following a careful assessment process to ensure the child is a good match for your family or circumstances.
Benefits
To reflect the skill and time needed, we offer Specialist Foster Carers:
A generous financial package and income of up to £40,000 a year
28 days a year paid respite (opportunity for someone else to care for the child)
A package of therapeutic support individually tailored to meet the needs of the child and carers
An experienced supervising social worker as part of your network of support
24/7 support including evenings and weekends
Training and support groups for carers – focusing on understanding attachment and therapeutic parenting strategies.
We work to build an inclusive, enriching, and empowering community for our children in care. Diversity enriches all our lives, especially those of children. We respect, value and welcome all applications. Age, disability, gender reassignment, relationship status, race, sexual orientation, religion, gender are not barriers to fostering, we actively welcome applications from all individuals, couples and families.
