Pay Rate to Intermediary: £28.38 per hour

Spinwell is recruiting for a Patient Safety Specialist for an excellent opportunity within the public sector.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE PATIENT SAFETY SPECIALIST

The main purpose of the role is to work Trust wide in supporting the development, promotion, and implementation of the Trust's Patient Safety Strategy and implementation of the Patient Safety Incident Response Framework (PSIRF) by adopting a train, coach and support approach. The role will provide senior leadership and expert advice and guidance to the Trust regarding patient safety, aligned with the requirements of the National Patient Safety Strategy.

The post holder will work closely and collaboratively with identified roles within the Trust who have responsibilities within patient safety. In performing the role, the post holder will be expected to build on the foundations of patient safety and embedding the Trust approach to the Patient Safety Incident Response Framework (PSIRF) by:

  • Ensuring Trust staff and patient partners have had training and development in the use of the tools associated with PSIRF.
  • Being a champion for embedding a Being Fair culture and utilising learning as a means to drive improvement across the organisation through the use of PSIRF methodology.

The post holder will work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to ensure that patient safety is based on the core aims of insight, involvement, and improvement.

SKILLS/EXPERIENCE OF THE PATIENT SAFETY SPECIALIST

  • Educated to Masters level (in a relevant discipline) or equivalent level, or equivalent experience of working at a senior level
  • Evidence of continued professional development in an up-to-date portfolio
  • Ability to provide senior leadership and work with senior leaders.
  • Ability to work with a high degree of autonomy and professional accountability
  • Up to date knowledge of national patient safety regulation and National Patient Safety Strategy including PSIRF
  • High quality presentation skills and ability to provide and effectively communicate highly complex, sensitive and contentious information to staff, patients and relatives/carers, particularly where a potentially antagonistic or highly emotive atmosphere may present significant barriers to acceptance
  • High level analytical skills and the ability to draw qualitative and quantitative data from a wide range of sources draw appropriate conclusions and present in a clear concise manner
  • Able to demonstrate knowledge of health policy and its application in practice
  • Experience of developing service-related plans and strategies and joint working with colleagues in a matrix involvement approach.
  • Experience and knowledge of the components of clinical/quality governance, incident response, risk management and assurance function; current NHS national policies, standards, requirements and directions that relate to measuring and improving the quality and safety of patient care
  • Experience of implementing national guidelines and policies with the ability to interpret national advice, guidance and requirements and advise their organisation on how these should be implemented.
  • Experience of complex service delivery including multi agency working.
