About the job
As Editor you'll be working on magazines that make up part of our portfolio of papercraft and soft craft titles. You will work alongside a Publishing team of Editors, Production Editors, Sub-Editors, Graphic Designers & Photographers to create market-leading magazines for our audience of craft enthusiasts.
Key responsibilities
Researching, planning and commissioning magazines to a detailed blueprint and specified budget, ensuring we are offering readers the most exciting and engaging content, featuring the very best brands and designers
Managing the copy flow of projects and features, ensuring they are laid out clearly and correctly, they are free from errors and adhere to a comprehensive house style guide
Writing engaging, commercial and creative packaging and cover briefs to invite readers to pick up our magazines on the newsstand
Completing all housekeeping tasks in a timely manner
Developing contacts within the market, representing the magazines to the industry at trade and consumer events where relevant
Identifying trends within the market and reacting to market conditions in a timely and appropriate manner
Liaising with relevant staff in other departments or roles within the company (eg art, photography, production, advertising, marketing), as well as external design resource, to support the production and commercial performance of the titles
Working with the Head of Publishing and the Product Development team to develop strong covermount concepts that inspire and meet the needs of the audience
Liaising with the Head of Publishing and Managing Editor to develop and execute the long-term publishing strategy for the titles
Essential skills
Knowledge of, and ability to meet, the needs of the reader
Ideas, creativity and originality
Excellent communication skills
Ability to hit deadlines in a fast-paced, hardworking environment
Ability to produce clear, detailed commissions for internal and external writers
Leadership (decision-making, problem solving)
Writing/copy-editing skills, and ability to spot good writing and design
Pro-active in internal & external relationship-building
Competency in using Microsoft Office & Google Workspace products
2 years of editorial experience is desirable but not essential
Craft industry knowledge (including but not limited to papercraft/knitting/crochet/sewing) would be an advantage but is not essential
