The Council of the Isles of Scilly is offering a fantastic opportunity for a Technical Officer to join our small but dynamic Regulatory Services team. This role is ideal for someone with a passion for Environmental Health, whether you're looking to start your career or are someone with experience looking to broaden and develop your skills.

The role is broad, offering a chance to work across all five core disciplines of Environmental Health:

  • Environmental Protection
  • Health and Safety
  • Food Safety
  • Public Health
  • Housing

You'll assist the Head of Regulatory Services in delivering a wide range of functions, including:

  • Inspecting food businesses and awarding hygiene ratings
  • Sampling and risk assessing private water supplies
  • Investigating workplace accidents
  • Inspecting housing conditions (e.g., damp and mould)
  • Responding to noise complaints and monitoring air quality
  • Supporting infectious disease control and vessel inspections
  • Managing Environmental Health IT systems and databases
  • Updating webpages and handling customer service requests
  • Engaging with businesses, landlords, and the public to promote best practice and compliance

The role includes both administrative and operational duties, with a strong emphasis on public interaction and outdoor work. You'll need excellent communication, IT, and organisational skills, along with a resilient attitude.
