The Learning Disability Service
Exciting opportunities are available to join NHS Lothian's Learning Disability Service within Islay Centre and William Fraser Centre, located at the Royal Edinburgh Hospital.
Islay Centre
The Islay Centre offers assessment and treatment for individuals with learning disabilities and/or autism who display complex or high-risk behaviours. Using a multidisciplinary teamincluding psychiatry, psychology, art therapy, occupational therapy, speech and language therapy, and pharmacythe centre provides trauma-informed, positive behavioural support. Its goal is to enhance quality of life, promote community inclusion, and reduce the use of restrictive practices.

William Fraser Centre
The William Fraser Centre provides assessment and treatment for individuals with learning disabilities, including those with forensic backgrounds in a secure ward setting. Working through a multidisciplinary team, the centre offers trauma-informed, positive behavioural support to enhance quality of life and reduce restrictive practices. It delivers high-quality, evidence-based care, supports professional development, and participates in the Royal College of Psychiatry's inpatient accreditation process to maintain continuous service improvement.
