Orthoptic Service

Part-time permanent Specialist Orthoptist Band 6 0.4 WTE (14.8 hours/2 days per week)

A part time specialist orthoptist vacancy has arisen within our team of orthoptists and orthoptic support workers.

The post will mainly be based within 2 acute hospital settings in Edinburgh where the service handles a varied caseload of paediatric and adult motility.

Clinical duties include general orthoptic clinics and working alongside the wider ophthalmology team with Consultant Paediatric & Adult Strabismus/Neuro-Ophthalmologists, Hospital Optometrists and Community Paediatricians.

The department has a commitment to clinical teaching of undergraduate students including orthoptic and medical students. Prior experience of practice education of undergraduate students would be desirable.

The department actively participates in CPD and audit.

A diploma/degree in Orthoptics with current HCPC registration and a wide range of orthoptic practice with good clinical knowledge and excellent communication skills essential.
