An exciting opportunity has become available to work within the Walsall sexual health service as a Clinical support worker.

The successful applicant will be part of a friendly team offering excellent sexual health care to our patients.

Assist clinical staff with basic procedures, including chaperoning during intimate examinations, acting as an advocate for the patient.

Perform clinical tasks following appropriate competency training.

Ensure appropriate supply of equipment is available prior to start of any clinic and set up accordingly

Key Responsibilities

General Areas

Assist clinical staff with basic procedures, including chaperoning during intimate examinations, acting as advocate for the client.

To perform clinical tasks and observations following appropriate competency training and assessment including pregnancy testing, urinalysis, blood pressure monitoring, condom demonstration and venepuncture.

Maintain safe levels of hygiene, both clinical and personal, adhering to Trust Infection Control Policies including Gloves, protective clothing and hand washing.

To comply with the disposal of sharps and clinical waste.

Be aware of the correct procedures for dealing with spillages of bodily fluids and needlestick injuries in accordance with Trust Policy.

To be aware of how to report incidents in the service.

To ensure an appropriate supply of equipment is available prior to the start of any clinic and is set up accordingly.

At the end of any clinic all areas should be left safe and tidy, stationary equipment and leaflets to be stocked for next session.

To demonstrate and understand the importance of accurate record keeping.

To observe safe practice when using VDU's.

To undertake clerical and administrative duties as instructed by the CNS

Input, store and retrieve routine information within the electronic patient record system.

Assist with collection of statistical information and data for the service and Department of Health.

To monitor stock levels within the clinical/treatment areas and initiating orders.

Recording of patient's observations, including Height, weight and BMI calculation.

Report observations to Clinicians for action.

Support clinical staff with treatments and investigations as required

To be aware of responsibilities regarding safeguarding children and vulnerable adults and to act in the patient's best interest at all times

Chaperone patients, during clinical examinations, as and when required, ensuring privacy and dignity throughout.

Other Duties

Assist in the maintenance of general clerical activities to support the clinical environment and patient care. Including general reception duties, answering the telephone, taking messages and filing,

Confidentiality and Data Protection

All employees who have access to personal data in relation to patients or employees will be aware of their responsibilities under the Data Protection Act 1998 and will abide by the eight principles of that Act. Any breach of the Act could result in disciplinary action being taken and criminal charges being brought against the individual who has breached the Act.

Health and Safety

Individual employees of Walsall Healthcare Trust and other NHS employees contracted to work on the organisations premises have an equal responsibility, along with managers and supervisors, for maintaining safe working practices for the health and safety of themselves and other persons who may be affected by their acts or omissions at work.

All employees must adhere to their duties under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and other associated safety legislation, including all new Health & Safety Regulations. In addition employees must comply with all the Trust's policies relating to Health & Safety and Risk Management to secure a safe workplace and will draw management's attention to any deficiencies and/or hazards, which might prove detrimental to themselves or others.

There is a general responsibility for employees to act sensibly and reasonably, and attend mandatory health and safety training sessions.
