Newcastle upon Tyne NE UF, United Kingdom Clean Slate Financial Wellbeing Services CIO Full time £28,492 - £35,000 per year

Part-Time Financial Wellbeing Support Worker

Location: Newcastle upon Tyne

Hours: 21 hours per week between Monday and Friday, days/times flexible

Salary: £23,810 pro rata

Contract: 1-year fixed contract with potential for renewal

Holiday Allowance: 28 days per year pro rata

About Us

Clean Slate is a Newcastle-based charity dedicated to supporting people in recovery from addiction to build healthy, stable, and fulfilling lives. Our approach is rooted in empathy, compassion, dignity and empowerment — we believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to thrive.

About the Role

We are looking for a Financial Wellbeing Support Worker to join our committed team. This is a varied and rewarding role where you'll work directly with people in recovery to improve their financial stability and confidence.

You will provide one-to-one support to clients as they navigate the often-complex system of welfare benefits, including making applications both by phone and online, completing forms and attending assessments.

You'll also help clients to access appropriate debt solutions by conducting a full review of their financial situation, preparing income and expenditure statements and guiding them through the debt advice process of partner organisations. You will also provide practical budgeting advice tailored to each individual's recovery journey.

A key part of this role will also involve co-ordinating a small pool of volunteers who contribute to our financial wellbeing service, ensuring they are supported, valued and confident in their roles.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support clients to apply for and maintain welfare benefits, including making initial enquiries, completing forms and attending assessments.
  • Conduct detailed financial assessments, including income and expenditure reviews.
  • Guide clients through the process of obtaining debt solutions with our partners.
  • Offer personalised budgeting and money management support that complements clients' recovery plans.
  • Co-ordinate and support a small team of volunteers, fostering a positive and inclusive environment.
  • Maintain accurate records and contribute to reporting and monitoring as required.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and external partners to ensure holistic support for clients.

About You

We're looking for someone who shares our values of compassion, respect, empowerment and integrity. You don't need to have experience in every aspect of the role — what matters most is your commitment to supporting people in recovery and your willingness to learn.

You will be:

  • Empathetic, patient and non-judgmental.
  • Highly organised, with strong attention to detail.
  • Confident in communicating with a wide range of people including clients, agencies and volunteers.
  • Comfortable using IT systems and completing paperwork accurately.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a supportive team.

Experience in welfare benefits, debt advice or financial wellbeing work is desirable, but we will provide training and support for the right candidate.

We welcome applications from people with lived experience of addiction and recovery.

What We Offer

  • A supportive and inclusive working environment.
  • Ongoing training and development opportunities.
  • Flexible working arrangements where possible.
  • The opportunity to make a real difference to people's lives.

Closing date: 24 November 2025

We are an equal opportunities employer and celebrate the diversity of our team.
