Consultant Radionuclide Radiologist
The radiology division is expanding in terms of workforce and hardware to meet the demands of our increasing workload. The Health Board (BCUHB) recognises the importance of radiology in delivering national and local standards in many aspects of health care, and are investing in the expansion of radiology. We are currently working towards the Quality Standard for Imaging (QSI).
Our Nuclear Medicine and PET CT service performs a wide range of diagnostic imaging including specialist hybrid imaging supporting our local orthopaedic service, as well as providing hybrid imaging for a tertiary specialist Orthopaedic Hospitals (Oswestry). PET CT service currently offers scanning for an increasingly wide range of indications including oncology 18F-FDG imaging, 18F-PSMA & Choline, as well as infection imaging. A wide range of conventional gamma camera work is undertaken, including a busy MPI stress service. This service is currently undertaken on a GE Hawkeye in Glan Clwyd Hospital, and a GE NM870 DR in Wrexham Maelor Hospital.
The Health Board has recently approved an outline business case for a new, consolidated Centre of Excellence for Nuclear Medicine and PET CT to be developed and purpose built on the Glan Clwyd Hospital site. Supported by the commissioner (JCC), this OBC is now awaiting final sign off by Welsh Government, prior to building and procurement, with an expected opening in 2027.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to contribute to the general workload of their base department including the teaching of radiology trainees, undergraduate students, and other hospital staff. Radiologists contribute to an on-call rota which benefits from the services of an overnight and part weekend outsourcing company and home tele-radiology.
Research and teaching activities are encouraged and supported and, within radiology, there is a very successful training programme of specialist trainees. BCUHB has strong links with the University of Wales, Bangor giving the post holder an opportunity to also develop research and / or teaching links with this Higher Education Institute. There is also a Medical School in Bangor, with opportunities to get involved in teaching.
Flexible working arrangements will be considered and discussions regarding your requirements and how they can be accommodated are welcomed. Extended days and compressed hours are negotiable. Radiology also provides clinicians with home reporting workstations to support a varied job plan and improved work/life balance.
It is expected that you will receive mentoring from a consultant colleague who will be identified to you at appointment to help support your transition into the Health Board and early years working with us.
Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board (BCUHB) is Wales's largest health organisation, with a budget of over £2.4 billion and a workforce of over 20,000 staff. The Health Board provides primary, community, mental health and acute hospital services for the population of North Wales.

It also co-ordinates or provides the work of GP practices and NHS services provided by dentists, opticians, and pharmacists across the region.
The Health Board is an integrated health system that strives for excellent, compassionate care delivered in partnership with the public sector and other statutory and third sector organisations.
Candidates are encouraged to refer to the attached Job Description and Person Specification for further information.
If you are ready to make a significant impact on the future of healthcare in North Wales and possess the skills and experience required for this role, we invite you to apply.
Informal conversations are encouraged prior to applying.
