London, Greater London, United Kingdom Velocity Full time £75,000 - £150,000 per year

About us:

Velocity is revolutionising the global financial landscape by unifying fiat and digital assets through regulated stablecoin technology. We are tackling some of the most significant inefficiencies in global payments - from the limitations of SWIFT to the cost and delays of cross-border transactions.

Founded by seasoned operators Tom Greenwood and Eric Queathem, with decades of experience founding, scaling, and leading payments businesses, Velocity combines deep expertise in regulated financial systems with a fast-growing team of around 15 people across London and Warsaw.

Our platform enables businesses to manage payments, treasury functions, and liquidity in real time, operating 24/7/365. We remove friction in global payouts, cross-border settlements, and treasury operations - seamlessly integrating stablecoin-powered speed with the reliability of traditional finance.

Backed by robust partnerships, including strategic collaborations with Fireblocks and other leading technology providers, we are building trusted infrastructure for scalable global growth.

In May 2025, we announced a $10m pre-seed round led by Activant Capital, with participation from Fuel Ventures, Triton Capital, Fabric Ventures, Commerce Ventures, Digital Space Ventures, and Preface Ventures - alongside strategic shareholders from Stripe, Worldpay, Visa, Circle, PayPal, and Google.

Key responsibilities

  • Serve as Velocity's UK and EU regulatory and commercial counsel, working alongside the Head of Compliance on regulatory strategy and commercial contract negotiations.

  • Act as the primary legal point of contact for UK, EU and other authorities; support responses to supervisory enquiries and investigations.

  • Lead on UK and EU and other regulatory authorisations, registrations, and variations; prepare and manage regulatory submissions with the Head of Compliance.

  • Lead negotiations with clients on the Client Agreement and other commercial documents.

  • Review and negotiate commercially important documents, such as partner agreements and vendor contracts.

  • Partner with Product, Compliance, and Risk to advise on the design and launch of innovative payments and e-money products.

What we are looking for:

  • Qualified Solicitor (England & Wales) or EU equivalent.

  • 5+ years' PQE gained in private practice and/or in-house, with a focus on digital asset and payments regulation.

  • Strong track record of working with FCA rules, UK financial regulation (FSMA, EMRs, PSD2), and EU frameworks (MiCA, PSD2/3). Experience in, or in depth knowledge of, the US and UAE financial regulatory regimes is encouraged.

  • Experience in reviewing commercial agreements and negotiations with clients and partners.

  • Excellent judgment, stakeholder management, and ability to deliver pragmatic, business-oriented advice in a fast-paced environment.

Why Join?

  • Work on a groundbreaking, forward-thinking solution: Be part of a team leveraging cutting-edge technologies to transform the global financial landscape.

  • Mission-driven environment with purpose: At Velocity, we prioritize security, and user empowerment, ensuring our solutions are built with integrity and designed to make a difference.

  • Learn from industry heavyweights: The founding team consists of seasoned operators with a proven track record in the industry, providing invaluable mentorship and guidance as we grow.

  • Backed by top-tier venture capital: Velocity is supported by premier investors, providing the resources and backing necessary to scale rapidly and execute on our ambitious vision.

  • Shape the future of global finance: Join an innovative team working on a revolutionary solution that is changing the long-term trajectory of financial operations.

  • Be part of a company with long-term vision: With a strong regulatory-first approach and a focus on sustainable, scalable growth, Velocity is poised for long-term success.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Shared ownership Everyone owns a share of the company - no exceptions.

  • Company retreats Regular whole-company get-togethers in great places - at least twice a year.

  • L&D budgets We'll support you with training and development related to your role - or your next role. This could be funding a course, or giving you time to work on a new skill - we'll do our best to make it happen.

  • Offices We're a dispersed team but one that likes spending time together. We have an office in London, and we aim to work together there the majority of the time. We also believe in working with the best talent wherever it is in the world, so we also have great people who work remotely but join us f2f as much as possible.

  • Equipment It is important to have the best tools for the job. We will provide you with a high end Macbook and will update them regularly. We use all the best modern tools - and if you find an even more efficient way of doing something, we'll adopt it.

  • Health and Wellbeing: Paid sick leave for physical and mental health. Depending on your location, private health cover, and extras like dental coverage.

  • Pension: Enrollment in our pension scheme. Velocity contributes the equivalent of 3% of your base salary.

  • Holiday: Everyone gets 25 days of holiday, plus bank holidays and your birthday off – or opt out of bank holidays and take 33 days whenever you like

  • Family: Paid maternity, paternity, adoption or shared parental leave, if you've been with us for at least 20 weeks. At least 30 week primary caregiver leave at 100% pay and at least 10 weeks secondary caregiver leave. Up to 12 weeks of paid Neonatal Leave when a baby requires neonatal care.

  • Community: Monthly budgets for team activities, free company merch, hot lunch twice a week on us if you are based in an office, and regular sessions with spears on topics that matter to you.
